Southerners Futsal

Unfortunately due to an egregious series of errors by the captain of the Southerners Division 2 team, it’s been benched by BFL management. While we do think the punishment doesn’t fit the crime, we do respect the BFL management and their right to make this call and are sorry, without reservation, for our part in this saga. We also apologise to every team in Div 2 for the consequences of our actions. It was never our intent to subvert Div 2 and we’ve always enjoyed a healthy rivalry with most teams in the division.
The Div 1 team will continue and we know that’ll be competitive all the way to the end with shortened season. So get behind the coolest and best team in the BFL!

Southerners got the job done tonight and, in doing so, claim the Div 2-A summer title for 24/25!

A huge shout-out to our Division 1 winning team. These guys were super consistent after a sluggish start, it was a pleasure to watch them play!
We celebrate moments like these and enjoy them, they're certainly quite rare and hard-earned.
Thank you to Byford Futsal League for the effort that goes in each season again, it's impressive to see what the league has become over the years.
Thanks to Ethan Zandman Sebastian Zandman Vaughan Audrain Cody van Meekeren Harvey Dykstra Ali Sina and Diego Riffo for your contribution and just revelling in the moments! You're a great bunch of guys and we love having you in our club.
Finally, a special mention to a special player Vaughan Audrain congrats on your Golden Boot win, you got close for MVP too, pity you missed the first few games!

So proud of our Division 1 Team! We won the title a couple of weeks back and the lads kept working hard to the end of the season, these guys are a pleasure to be involved with! Congratulations to Vaughan for winning the Golden Boot, unlucky on the MVP! Pity you missed a few games, you would have had that too!

It’s also a temporary farewell for the winter season for one of our stalwarts Riffo - he’s unavailable due to outdoor football commitments, and Sina is also taking a sporadic break from futsal due to outdoor commitments as well.

A lot going on this week! Both our team = TOP OF THEIR LEAGUES!
Not taking anything for granted though, Div 1 team is virtually impossible to lose the title from here but let’s show our strength and credentials and finish strong, 2 MORE WINS!
The Div 2 team is amazing. We have a great new player who is going from strength to strength (the coach is amazing), plus a real desire amongst the lads to perform week after week.
We had a number of players make TotW for both divisions. Let’s go Southerners !!

What a week of futsal!

Both Southerners teams did well, the Div 1 team is edging ever-closer to the league win. With that GD it’d be almost a robbery to see it taken away, but taking nothing for granted! We have to keep doing the business on the court. Two players made TotW - well done Ali & Vaughan 🙌🏼.

Our Div 2 team squeaked a win against inarguably the best team in the division. An upset for sure and aided in no small part to our TotW player, Ethan Zandman.

Normally these reviews aren’t bad but the one on our game was a tad harsh on 2-Touch and robbed us of some well-deserved kudos. Yes there were some mistakes but some of the phases of play Southerners Futsal put together was just beautiful to watch. 3 of the 6 goals were well-worked team goals.
Four points clear heading into the Christmas break. What a tight comp it is though, it’ll come down to those fine margins!

Saffies FC 🆚 The Nutmegs

Saffies FC picked up 3 points in a dire affair that really only had one highlight, that of Krys' left foot volley that happened to be the only time we saw the net bulge.
Too many long throws, and with futsal touches and completed passes being quite scarce, it meant neither team could break down their opponent to create any big chances to trouble their opposition keepers.

YKB 🆚 The Mad Shueys

YKB have noticably worked on slowing down their play to start implimenting a futsal structure, and kept the ball well at times.
With literally just fresh air to beat on 3 or 4 occasions, YKB should have put this game to bed in the 1st half, but they didn't capitalise and it came back to haunt them, with the Shueys scoring twice in the final 70 seconds to steal the win!
Shueys have been more deserving of points in other losses this season, but they will take this one gladly as they get themselves off the bottom of the ladder.

2 Touch FC 🆚 Southerners

2 Touch FC swapped their red playing shirts for red santa suits as they got right into the Christmas spirit of giving. 😆
Tom opened the scoring after creating a nice overload, but were unlucky to concede straight after.
From then on, 2 Touch assisted the next 5 goals for Southerners who really had to do very little to ice this one.
Southerners defended the attempted 5th man well and saw the game out to go 4 points clear at the top.

FC Vintage 🆚 BSG

BSG were fairly dominant in their victory against FC Vintage, with Vintage only picking up a consolation goal just before the final buzzer, which spoilt Hanno's clean sheet and probably an entry into the Team of the Week.
After conceding a sloppy early goal, Vintage did well to stay in the game however, but they couldn't contain the quality finishing of Damo's left boot, and although a quick goal or 2 may have changed the look of the game, it never really looked likely.

Opportunity to go 4 clear this week, but it's going to take every player on the Southerners team to stand tall this week against a quality and highly respected opposition.

The final round for 2024 looks to be a big one!

Saffies FC 🆚 The Nutmegs
Last Meeting: The Nutmegs def Saffies FC 6 to 4

The Nutmegs have been a bogey side for the Saffies, but I do recall that Ali was absent for them for this last meeting in an unusual high scoring Saffies match.
Can The Nutmegs build on last weeks result and hand Saffies a 3rd loss in a row?
Or can the Saffies get their season back on track, it's a must win if they want to start chasing down the leading 2 teams!

YKB 🆚 The Mad Shueys
Last Meeting: The Mad Shueys def YKB 9 to 8

The Mad Shueys won in a 17 goal lottery game last time around, but let's hope for a bit more of a structured game and less goals this week - or not - a 17 goal game sounds like great entertainment as a neutral! 😅
YKB have had a small resurgence after a slow start to the season and will hope to keep that going to end the year, while for The Shueys, they're looking to last a full 40 minutes and hang on to a result!

2 Touch FC 🆚 Southerners
Last Meeting: 2 Touch FC def Southerners 7 to 3

A top of the table clash between 2 teams that have pulled away from the competition at this stage of the season.
It's bound to be a massive game, with Southerners able to open up what would be a huge 4 point gap, so that would mean it leans toward being a bigger game for 2 Touch this time around, with just one further meeting to come later in the season.
The game is planned to be live streamed for everyone to see, and hopefully the match is rewatched for the quality of game rather than any childish theatrics 😜

FC Vintage 🆚 BSG
Last Meeting: BSG def FC Vintage 7 - 3

The last match of 2024 is between a struggling Vintage, and a BSG suffering recent trouble.
BSG have slipped from 1st to 7 points behind in a month of futsal, and need a win to get them back into contention.
FC Vintage have just the one win so far, but aren't that far away from getting into the mid pack if they can pick up some good results in a bunch.

Well done to Vaughan & Ethan for making ToTW - great decision, both had excellent games in different areas of the Futsal Court. Well done gents! Vaughan & Ethan 🙌

It's shaping up to be a cracker next week! The old rivalry continues with some new faces. We still think Tom looks better in orange ;)

Division 1 - Round 9 - Review

Saffies FC 🆚 YKB

Saffies suffered a 2nd loss in a row to the hands of YKB, who have revived their season in the past 2 weeks.
Still a long way to go for them, but there are 12 rounds left!
For the Saffies, this is the problem in this league; you have a bad week or 2, it can easily become a disaster as there are no easy games in the league, and a 3rd or 4th loss on the trot would basically end their season, they'll need to bounce back next week against The Nutmegs!

The Nutmegs 🆚 BSG

The Nutmegs claimed a big win over BSG with great performances particularly from Tim, and also Pacey minding the net.
A painful result for BSG with 2 losses in 2 weeks now, and injuries now to go with it.
The top 2 have bolted, but these two 'upsets' have created a 4 team mid pack now, with Saffies and BSG, who were ladder leaders a month ago, they're now 7 points adrift!

The Mad Shueys 🆚 Southerners

The Mad Shueys stayed in touch for much of the game, and pegged a goal back at one stage to bring it to 2 - 1, but they couldn't go with the Southerners in the 2nd half.
It's been the tale of the tape for Shueys this season unfortunately, while for Southerners with plenty of individual talent, they are going to be hard to notch a win against this season.
They lead 2 Touch FC by a point ahead of a huge clash with them to end the year!

FC Vintage 🆚 2 Touch FC

Vintage jumped a slow 2 Touch to lead two nil early, but they were pegged back by around half time with 2 Touch gaining the lead for the first time at 5 - 4.
2 Touch dominated the 2nd half, and for the first time this season, it looked like things were starting to click together for the team in red.
They need to tighten up the against column, but we're set up for a mouth watering contest between 1st and 2nd next week!

To give you an idea of the rivalry with 2 Touch FC check out these stats! Massive respect between both teams and they're both miles in front in terms of achievements of any other team for matches played, goals scored, wins and so on.
There are always new teams coming along but Southerners Futsal and 2 Touch FC will always have a tremendous respect for each other.
As we look around the Byford Futsal League it's amazing how many players in different teams have played for us, it's great to see.
