Meet Perth 2027 ambassador Simon Medlyn — a Prison Service dog handler from Great Britain who has been tearing up mountain bike trails since he was a kid messing around in a quarry with his mates 🇬🇧

His Games journey began in Fairfax 2015 — where he went all in with 10 to 14 hours of training a week and crossed the line to take gold. But ask Simon which result means the most and he'll tell you about 2019. Battling through injury and illness all winter, he arrived with zero expectations — and finished fourth. Just four seconds behind the Spanish rider in third. That Spanish rider is now one of his closest friends 🥹

That's the power of these Games.

Perth 2027 will be his first time in Australia and he's coming for the trails, the lifestyle and the people — competing in Mountain Bike XCO and XCM on the world stage.

Meet Poovanesvaran Kanesan - a Royal Malaysia Police officer bringing nearly a decade of service and 27 years of karate to Perth 2027 🥋

A Crime Investigation Officer from Kuala Lumpur, Poovanesvaran has spent his career gathering evidence, protecting victims and upholding the law - all while quietly building one of the most impressive sporting resumes in the Games community.

Since picking up karate at just 10 years old, the sport has taken him everywhere. SEA Games 2011. Asian Karate Federation Championships. International podiums across the globe. And now, three World Police & Fire Games - Chengdu 2019, Rotterdam 2022 and Birmingham 2025 - with medals to show from each.

Perth 2027 will be his fourth Games and his first time in Australia 🇦🇺 - and he's arriving with his Royal Malaysia Police teammates and one thing on his mind. More medals. But for Poovanesvaran, the Games have always been about more than the podium. It's the friendships built across borders, the cultures discovered, the shared spirit of first responders from every corner of the world competing side by side.

A time to recognise the contribution of millions of volunteers across the country.

Today, the Perth 2027 World Police & Fire Games would like to give a special shout out to one of our own incredible volunteers — Ron 👏

Ron has shown a lifelong commitment to service.

Across 42 years with the Western Australia Police Force, Ron served in General Duties, Detective roles, Child Abuse, Domestic Violence Coordination and Organised Crime, before helping train future officers at the Police Academy. Even after retiring in 2018, he continued giving back through Coronial Investigations and other community roles.

Since then, Ron has volunteered at Ronald McDonald House, supported families at Perth Children’s Hospital, worked during the COVID response at Royal Perth Hospital, and brought experience from major international events including the Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000 Olympics.

Now, Ron dedicates three days a week volunteering on Perth 2027, helping lead transport and logistics planning as we prepare to welcome thousands of first responders from around the globe.

For Ron, it’s all about connection, teamwork and community.
