That feeling when you've been out in the sun too long π
-
I found this dried up puffer fish washed up on the beach.
-
The Australian sun can be pretty harsh.
-
Do you tan while fishing or cover up and stay out of the sun?

75cm silver cobbler catfish π
-
A surprise catch while fishing small baits for whiting.
-
It put up a surprisingly long fight on the light gear.
-
Like everything in Australia it's out to kill you. It has sharp venomous spines that can inflict some serious damage if you're not careful.
-
The stripes on its side are probably from the line making marks in the fish's slime coating while it was swimming away from shore.
-
Safely released after a quick pic.
-
Ever seen one of these?

That feeling when a MONSTER SHARK jumps on your line π€―
-
Was ballooning out a tuna head from the beach when what was probably a 4-5m tiger shark hit it.
-
Bit of a disaster though. The line roller on the reel seized part way through an unstoppable run and the friction of the line being pulled over it overheated the roller and the line melted.
-
There was a big crack and I'm pretty sure I saw the shock wave. I thought for a second the reel had exploded but it was just the line.
-
I've landed a 3 meter tiger on this gear with no problem and this one felt much bigger and harder to stop.
-
I've topped up the line, tied a new shark rig and stripped and serviced the line roller ready for another go.
-
What do you think I hooked?
-
Reel: Saltist Nero 8000 from
Rod: Prevail II 1202H, 12 ft, 15-37kg from
Line: 550m of 50lb rainbow elite braid

Little black tip π¦

Loads of these tippers cruising the beaches looking for scraps.
-
If you're bait fishing for other species and your line gets bitten off, it might be one of these little guys.

Little black tip reefy π¦
-
Loads of these little sharks around. A lot of them aren't heavy enough to set the hook fully, they just get nicked in the corner of the mouth and the hook often falls out once they are landed and the line goes slack.
-
I have to fish with the big sharks in mind, so can't really use lighter or smaller tackle. You never know what will pick up the bait, could be a baby shark or a 5 metre monster.
-
Quick πΈ and safely released.

White spotted guitar shark πΈπ¦ a.k.a. wedge fish π§π Know any other names for it?
-
I don't fish for these on purpose, they pickup baits meant for other fish.
-
They put up quite a fight close to the beach, especially on lighter gear.

Monster pink snapper, only about half a metre to go before it's legal π
-
A bit of ultralight fishing in an inlet to see what's biting. A few whiting and some baby pinkies.
-
This one went straight back to keep growing.
-
I wonder if it'll be back on Instagram one day as a metre long beast?

White tip reef shark π¦
-
Caught this white tip off the rocky section of the beach. It was barrel rolling all the way in. It's about 5-6ft long.
-
Landed it onto a cool, wet rock platform to unhook it and take a quick pic before releasing it.
-
Quick πΈ and safely released.
