Hydrocore’s mine water pressure reducing valves offer reduced downtime
The Hydrocore™ range of mine water pressure reducing valves offered by Dual Valves Australasia* feature a single moving part that is easily accessible for maintenance with the valve in the installed position. The valves are designed to handle a maximum inlet pressure of 250 bar (25 MPa) and are ideal for pressure reduction in underground mining applications.
“Hydrocore™ pressure reducing valves are designed to offer greatly reduced maintenance downtime, minimal operating costs and maximum system flexibility, and the simple design makes troubleshooting and repairs significantly easier compared with competing products” says Dual Valves’ Justin Mirto. He explains that, by removing the valve’s end covers and extracting the shuttle, the seals can be replaced and the shuttle refitted to resume operations in a very short time. “No need to remove the valve out of the pipe line. No pressure reducing pilot valves, needle valves, isolating c**k valves, dismantling of pilot lines, springs and diaphragms to deal with. It’s so easy - simply remove one end cover, remove one moving part, replace the seals and reinstall - and the system is back up and running again in a few minutes”.
As with all their product range, Hydrocore™ applied their experience and understanding to design their pressure reducing valves specifically for underground mine water applications. The tamper proof design and reliable performance ensures that end-users can enjoy trouble-free operation for many years. All Hydrocore™ valves are designed with this simple but effective philosophy, and their range includes valves for isolation and control application, including pressure reduction, pump discharge control, column drain and water-hammer prevention up to a maximum of 250 bar CWP.

DUAL VALVES AUSTRALASIA OFFERS HYDROCORE™ U-CONE PIPE COUPLINGS – DESIGNED FOR SPECIFICALLY FOR HIGH PRESSURE MINING PIPELINES
The Hydrocore™ U-Cone coupling offers mine engineers a simple and economical alternative to traditional fl**ges for use on high pressure pipe systems.
Pipes are joined simply by bringing the ends of the pipe with welded hubs together after inserting the seal, fitting the clamp set over the adjoining hubs and tightening the clamp bolts.
The external tapers on the hubs provide alignment while the clamp set pulls the hubs together, forming a simple but effective seal which comparable to similar rated conventional fl**ge systems.
Assembly and stripping times are faster than conventional fl**ges - the number of bolts to be tightened on U-Cone pipe couplings is far less than the number of bolts on a standard comparable fl**ge system – eg: a U-Cone DN100 250 Bar (25Mpa) rated coupling uses 2 bolts – whereas a similar rated fl**ge (ANSI/ASME B16.5 Class 1500 #) would use 8 bolts.
Storage/transportation costs are lower due to smaller footprint occupied by pipes with welded hubs compared to pipes with welded fl**ges. Fl**ge diameters are larger than hub diameters.
Hubs can be supplied full bore, with metallurgy to ensure weld compatibility with the pipe used, and are supplied prepared for standard butt welding to all pipes.
Features and specifications:
o Clamps are cast steel BS3100 Gr. 2 or equivalent as standard, with optional coatings available.
o Hubs are St52 as standard, with other alloys available upon request for weld compatibility with the pipe system used.
o Bolts used are Gr.8.8 or higher, electro-galvanized as standard.
o Designed and tested per ASME B31.3 and ANSI/ASME VIII.
o Available in various sizes with standard pressure ratings from 64 Bar up to 250 Bar (25Mpa):
o 100 Bar (10MPA) rated: DN50 to DN500
o 160 Bar (16Mpa) rated: DN50 to DN400
o 250 Bar (25Mpa) rated: DN50 to DN300.

eDART COARSE POPPET SAMPLER
The coarse sampler has been specifically designed to sample coarse slurries, typically
cyclone feed lines. This sampler can sample particles up to 15 mm in diameter. This
sampler features a tungsten carbide piston plate and a polyurethane sampling chamber for
increased wear resistance. The samplers are used for calibration of densitometers and
control purposes. In the retracted position the sampler is fully removed from the process
stream to extend life expectancy.

DVA’s High Pressure Knife Gate Valve sleeves replace OEM sleeves after extensive site trials
In another win for DUAL Valves Australasia, a West Australian alumina refinery has recently replaced a number of their 21 Bar rated OEM push-through style knife gate valve sleeves with sleeves from DUAL’s High Pressure knife gate valves - after reporting a tenfold increase in lifespan to date when using our DUAL DHPSKG sleeves in comprehensive site trials.
“We were advised that their 21 Bar rated OEM knife gate valves were consistently failing after only four weeks in operation in the worst reported applications. A decision was taken by the refinery team to extensively trial a number of their knife gate valves retro-fitted with DUAL’s DHPSKG sleeves after we confirmed their suitability and dimensional fit” explained Justin Mirto of Dual Valves Australasia (DVA).
“An initial set of four valves was retro-fitted with our DHPSKG sleeves, and these were installed in selected worst performing areas where the OEM sleeves were consistently failing after only four weeks in operation. At the time of writing this article, reports from the end user indicate the trial valves had been performing well for over 12 months.”
Encouraged by performance of the sleeves, the refinery embarked on a program to refurbish all the OEM valves with DUAL DHPSKG sleeves as and when they fail - in an ongoing exercise that has resulted in the refinery enjoying a new-found luxury: a reliable stock of rebuilt valves sitting in their stores awaiting deployment – something that they had not achieved in years with the OEM.
“All the clichés apply - ownership costs are down, downtime has been slashed - and maintenance crew morale is up. It’s been extremely satisfying to see these results unfold and recognised by end-users. DUAL’s long standing philosophy of offering customers high performance with excellent value have certainly paid off for this client” explained Justin Mirto. “We expect to see more end-users challenge the reliability and performance of their existing OEM push-through style high pressure knife gate valves as more reports like this gradually filter through the industry”

Dual Valves Australasia introduces a new range of polyurethane lined knife gate valves (DULSKG) with 25 Bar pressure rating.
Dual Valves Australasia recently completed the supply of 25 Bar rated polyurethane lined knife gate valves in a first for the company in Australia, according to Justin Mirto.
Dual’s years of experience in using polyurethane compounds within their slurry valves allowed them to expand the range of one piece cast poly lined knife gate valves to now include the 25 Bar CWP rated version. These valves were previously offered rated up to 10 Bar CWP.
Dual Products manufactures the knife gate valves to MSS-SP-81 face-to-face dimensions; the valves feature repeatable bi-directional 100% drip tight shut-off, with the full port moulded polyurethane liner bonded to the single piece cast steel valve body giving extended service life over standard knife gate valves, especially in tailings and fly ash applications.
The urethane lining extends over the fl**ge face to serve as the valve’s fl**ge gasket, eliminating any need for additional gaskets on installation. The valve tower features a provision for inductive proximity switches to be fitted without modifications to the tower superstructure.
The valves are available with options for different methods of actuation, materials of construction and drilling patterns to suit the customer’s specific applications
