World Lindy Hop Day is celebrated on the birthday of Frankie Manning, one of the original innovators of Lindy Hop from the Harlem ballrooms of the 1930s. With its deep roots in the African American communities of New York City, especially the legendary Savoy Ballroom, Lindy Hop became a dance built on joy, creativity and community, offering a vital space for connection and expression through troubling times.

World Lindy Hop Day is a chance to honour that history, recognise the cultural roots of the dance, and continue sharing it with care and respect.

Thank you to all the volunteers, students, teachers, DJs, musicians, organisers, and dancers who help keep the Lindy spirit alive, spreading the history, joy, connection, and love of dance for future generations.

Today is World Lindy Hop Day! ❤️ A wonderful chance to celebrate this dance with its rich history rooted in African American dancers, musicians and communities from the 1930s and 40s.

If you ever get a chance to read Frankie Manning's biography - it's fantastic! 📖 It shares stories of what life was like back then, when jazz and Lindy Hop was thriving, as well as gives some great insights into the culture around the dance and its relevance today.

We hope to celebrate with you all this weekend at the Saturday Night Hop - WLHD Edition! There's also a bonus solo jazz class on just before, to Learn the Jitterbug Stroll Saturday Night Hop May ! 🐞
