A country carnival tilt or even a Saturday Highway date awaits the winner of the headline sprint at Monday's Quirindi meeting.

In what rates as a very strong Benchmark 74 lineup over 1200m for a Monday, several hopefuls lock horns in what shapes as a real "stepping stone" race heading towards winter.

In fact, six in the big field are last start winners, with several coming back from deeper and higher graded feature races.

Fittingly just four days out from the two-day Scone Cup carnival, six runners from that base were in the Quirindi field, including three from the Brett and Georgie Cavanough stable.

Certainly, the Cavanough yard is showing no signs of taking its foot off the pedal amidst a successful run of late.

The stable has seven individual winners from its last 24 runners, including a Group 3 at Hawkesbury, the feature BM 85 Mornington at Tamworth, and the Lone Pint Sprint at Muswellbrook.

But it's the rival Scott Singleton yard that could well provide Scone's leading chance, with smart four-year-old Irish Jig returning for his first run since late last year.

A provincial Class 1 winner first-up in spring, Irish Jig was given a very quiet trial 19 days ago so the market will be a big indicator of just how ready he is.

In a wide and competitive race, Irish Jig opened around $5.50 in early betting behind only five-year-old He's My Warrior ($4.50) who shoots for a third win this campaign for Tamworth trainer Craig Martin.

Right in the battle also is tough Muswellbrook gelding King Larry ($6.50) who hasn't been far away in two feature sprints at home, and now steps up in distance fourth-up behind a six week freshen.

The Quirindi surface was rated well into soft range through Sunday, but with dry weather ahead is expected to firm up significantly by the start of the meeting.

1st Race @ 12.50pm
*Track Soft 6 & Rail True:

*RACE 1 @ 12.50pm ROGER MOYLAN MEMORIAL COUNTRY BOOSTED MAIDEN PLATE (1000m) - Set Weights; Apprentices Can Claim:

TOP SELECTION: 1. DEVILISH SUN (Tim MacIntosh/Luke Rolls; 59kg & barrier ๐Ÿ˜Ž -we open the meeting with the maiden sprinters at set weights on a drying track; and confident we can hit the ground running aboard this lightly raced & progressive 3YO by Sebring Sun resuming for only his 3rd start. Did his best work late on debut late last year hitting the line from well back before an even better effort at Dubbo when charging home late to beat all but the winner as a rock solid favourite. Fresh again now; and despite not having officially trialled; finds a race with less depth. Drawn to settle back off the speed & then be taken to the outside past the 350m

DANGERS: 2. *Jack The Boss; 5. *Albert's Pick; 6. *Flying Molly; 10. **Supido Star

Likely Tempo: Good
My BET PLAN: DEVILISH SUN to WIN & Trifecta: 1,10/1,2,5,6,10/1,2,5,6,10

*RACE 2 @ 1.25pm BRUCE MARLES MEMORIAL MAIDEN HCP (1200m) - Min Weight 55kg; Apprentices Can Claim:

TOP SELECTION: 10. RUSSIAN WORDS (Rodney Ollerton/TBA; 55kg & barrier 5) -still with the maidens over a furlong further; and very keen to back this sparingly raced & still improving 3YO filly by Russian Revolution who finally gets out to the right trip 4th-up. Worked home fairly in consecutive runs against much deeper provincial opposition before coming off a month-long break to do her best work late in a maiden here a fortnight ago after being backed from $6.50 into $4.80. Bursting for the extra trip now; and she can settle a few lengths back in the trail before producing a superior closing surge

DANGERS: 1. **Little Duke; 2. *Mr Cornstar; 4. *Vendor

Likely Tempo: Solid
My BET PLAN: RUSSIAN WORDS to WIN & Quinella: 1 and 10

*RACE 3 @ 2.05pm JOHN 'MOUSE' SINCLAIR MAIDEN PLATE (1450m) - Set Weights; Apprentices Can Claim:

TOP SELECTION: 2. ERNIEGY (Lou Mary/Jake Pracey-Holmes/59kg & barrier 3) -back at set weights for the maidens over a longer trip; and in an open affair with a few chances; it shapes best for this progressive & consistent 3YO by Graff who reloads 23 days between runs after missing a start at the abandoned Gunnedah meeting last Monday. Has beaten all but the winner in three runs this 1st full prep; the latest should have won 3rd-up at Dubbo when getting home late. Drawn to get the right trail here just off the speed; and only needs a clear shot at them over the final 400m to open his account

DANGERS: 3. *Fortheo; 5. **Microgravity; 7. *Northfire; 8. *Prima Vecchio

Likely Tempo: Reasonable to Solid
My BET PLAN: ERNIEGY to WIN & Trifecta: 2,5/2,3,5,7,8/2,3,5,7,8

*RACE 4 @ 2.40pm ELDERS KILLARA FEEDLOT BENCHMARK 58 HCP (1000m) - Min Weight 55kg; Apprentices Can Claim:

TOP SELECTION: 1. CANAMBLE (Damien Lane/Ms Jasmine Urquart-Warren a4kg; 58kg & barrier 7) -right back in distance here for the restricted sprinters; and in an open race; rating on top is this sparingly raced & provincial-based 4YO mare by Aylmerton who will relish a drop in grade 3rd-up on a 5 week turnaround after also missing last Monday's abandoned Gunnedah card. Failed to hit the line in much deeper provincial company in mid March before driving late to only go under by a half length in a BM 66 over 1100m at Mudgee. Advantaged around this smaller course with her tactical speed, and she gets right back in at the weights after the junior rider's 4kg claim. Can take her winning strike rate to better than 20 percent

DANGERS: 3. **Denman Bandit; 4. *Iknowyou; 6. *Golden Vader; 7. *Magnolia Jewel

Likely Tempo: Good
My BET PLAN: CANAMBLE to WIN & Quinella: 1 and 3

*RACE 5 @ 3.15pm QPP MEDIA COUNTRY BOOSTED BENCHMARK 58 HCP (1600m) - Min Weight 55kg; Apprentices Can Claim:

TOP SELECTION: 8. WHITTELLO SUN (Simon Casey/Ms Olivia Dalton a2kg; 57.5kg & barrier 10) -staying in the grade; but back out significantly to the mile in a very open & tactical race with a stack of chances. Settled at the value aboard this lightly raced & improving 3YO son of Sebring Sun who can peak 4th up in just his 2nd prep over a furlong further. Hit the line late over too short a trip at Scone when resuming behind a smart winner before sweeping home from midfield to land his maiden at Muswellbrook over 1280m. Then again did his best work late in a CL1 when stepping up further in distance 17 days ago. Ready for this journey now; and well treated at the weights after the jockey's 2kg allowance

DANGERS: 1. *Zou Big Boy; 2. *Jason Darren; 3. *Mrs Bull; 5. *The Great Armada; 7. *Rainbow Blessing; 9. *Zougo Boss

Likely Tempo: Reasonable
My BET PLAN: WHITTELLO SUN Each Way

*RACE 6 @ 3.50pm GOWINGS TOYOTA BENCHMARK 74 HCP (1200m) - Min Weight 55kg; Apprentices Can Claim:

TOP SELECTION: 4. KING LARRY (Wayne Wilkes/Kody Nestor; 59kg & barrier 4) -back to the sprint trip here for easily the highest-graded race on the program; and it shapes nicely for a tough & sparingly raced 5YO by Sebring Sun who can peak here over a furlong further & 4th-up off a 6 week freshen. Ran home well from a long way back in the tougher Skellatar Sprint at Muswellbrook 2 starts ago before only beaten 1 length in the Lone Pine there after settling closer. Steps up from the 1000m at the right time; and drawn to find a handy trail a few lengths off the speed

DANGERS: 2. **Shadow Dane; 3. Macleay; 6. *He's My Warrior; 11. *Vierville; 13. **Irish Jig

Likely Tempo: Solid
My BET PLAN: KING LARRY to WIN & First Four: 2,4,13/2,3,4,6,11,13/2,3,4,6,11,13/2,3,4,6,11,13

*RACE 7 @ 4.25pm GRINNERS DIGGERS CLASS 1 HCP (1200m) - Min Weight 55kg; Apprentices Can Claim:

TOP SELECTION: 6. FARNCIFUL (Jason Deamer/Ben Looker; 56kg & barrier 2) -we close the big day with the lower class sprinters; and very keen on this provincial-based & lightly raced 3YO filly by Farnan. Finally steps up from the 1000m dash; and is well placed to make it 2 wins from her last 4 deep into her 1st full prep. Let down nicely from midfield to claim her maiden 3 starts ago; before working home in a deeper CL1 after being backed from $4.60 into $4.20. Then again did her best work late when not suited on an ordinary Gosford surface; but that form reads well for this; despite drawing wide.

DANGERS: 2. **Di**le Grey; 4. *Compadre; 7. **Indi Springs; 8. *Casino Sting; 9. *Jamacri

Likely Tempo: Solid
My BET PLAN: FARNCIFUL to WIN & Box Exacta: 2,6,7

**My BEST EARLY BETS:

R1 1. DEVILISH SUN**
R2 10. RUSSIAN WORDS**

**My BEST EARLY VALUE:

R6 4. KING LARRY**

**My BEST EARLY EXOTICS:

R3 Trifecta: 2,5/2,3,5,7,8/2,3,5,7,8
R4 Quinella: 1 & 3
R7 Box Exacta: 2,6,7

GOOD LUCK

1st Race @ 1.05pm
*Track Good 4 & Rail True:

*RACE 1 @ 1.05pm CHALLENGE COMMUNITY SERVICES MAIDEN HCP (1000m) - Min Weight 55.5kg; Apprentices Can Claim:

TOP SELECTION: 1. EXTREMELY PERFECT (Jacob Perrett/Jake Pracey-Holmes; 58kg & barrier 2) -we open the program with the maiden sprinters; and it shapes ideally for this 3YO by Extreme Choice who is banging on the door 4th-up behind a 6 week freshen-up. Weakened late from the front in a deeper maiden 3 starts back before being ridden a bit quieter and ran home okay at Tamworth. Then again found one better at Armidale as a short-price favourite when it was hard to make ground. Blinkers go on at the right time coming back a shade in trip; and hard fit he's the one to beat

DANGERS: 4. *Pivotal Miss; 5. *Daisy Duck; 6. **Go Russian

Likely Tempo: Good to Strong
My BET PLAN: EXTREMELY PERFECT to WIN & Trifecta: 1,6/1,4,5,6/1,4,5,6

*RACE 2 @ 1.45pm DISABILITY & AGED CARE SERVICES COUNTRY BOOSTED MAIDEN PLATE (1200m) - Set Weights; Apprentices Can Claim:

TOP SELECTION: 8. TWICE AZ COOL (Rodney Northam/Ms Leeshelle Small a1.5kg; 57kg & barrier 2) -the maidens again at set weights over a furlong further; and confident this very lightly raced & improving 3YO by specialist sprint sire Cool Aza Beel can break through 2nd-up in his 1st full prep. Had more than a year off after a moderate debut at this course; but after plenty of education and a quiet trial; returned with a rock solid effort on speed at Scone behind a handy winner. That run reads well for this over a shade more ground; and naturally fitter from an advantaged low draw; he can open his account

DANGERS: 6. *Rock Emperor; 9. *Lobbyist; 10. *Pepperina

Likely Tempo: Solid
My BET PLAN: TWICE AZ COOL to WIN

*RACE 3 @ 2.20pm ARUMA SERVICES COUNTRY BOOSTED BENCHMARK 58 HCP (1000m) - Min Weight 55kg; Apprentices Can Claim:

TOP SELECTION: 1. VIERVILLE (Brett & Georgie Cavanough/Ms Jasmine Urquhart-Warren a4kg; 58.5kg & barrier 3) -back in trip here for the restricted sprinters; and very keen to back this tough & honest 4YO by Omaha Beach who is well placed deep into the current campaign. Found a CL4 Country C'ship Preview at Scone too tough 3 runs ago before a short break; then returned with a solid closing effort in a handy BM 66 at Armidale. Taken to the front 19 days ago in a deeper race at Taree & while missing a place; held on well in what was a blanket finish. Back to the 5 furlongs is a big plus now from a low draw; and he's well treated at the weights after the rookie jockey's 4kg claim

DANGERS: 2. *El Beatle; 3. **Golden Vader; 7. *Northern Bogey

Likely Tempo: Solid to Good
My BET PLAN: VIERVILLE to WIN & Quinella: 1 and 3

*RACE 4 @ 2.55pm MEL BROWN CATERING MAIDEN PLATE (1450m) - Set Weight; Apprentices Can Claim:

TOP SELECTION: 8. LUNA CRUISER (Jay Hopkins/Ms Shannen Lllewellyn a0kg; 57kg & barrier 9) -back with the maidens getting out over a longer journey at set weights; and in a race of a few chances; it stacks up best at the value for this provincial-based & improving 5YO mare by Puissance de Lune who can peak 2nd-up off a lengthy spell. Mixed her form through mainly deeper provincial maidens last prep; but was good to the line from midfield at big odds when resuming in a better maiden at Scone over 1300m. Naturally long overdue to break through ahead of her 25th start; but she's looking for this trip now; and bred to get further

DANGERS: 1 *Don't Share Shamus; 3. *Any Questions; 4. **Zorko; 13. *Pressiaire; 14. *Wild Legacy

Likely Tempo: Solid
My BET PLAN: LUNA CRUISER Each Way & First Four: 4,8/1,3,4,8,13,14/1,3,4,8,13,14/1,3,4,8,13,14

*RACE 5 @ 3.35pm WE CARE DISABILITY SERVICES BENCHMARK 58 HCP (1200m) - Min Weight 55kg; Apprentices Can Claim:

TOP SELECTION: 7. SIR HERRIDAH (Scott Singleton/Ms Mikayla Weir; 59.5kg & barrier 7) -the restricted sprinters lock horns again here; and in an open affair; rating on top is this lightly raced & progressive 4YO by fashionable sire Tassort who is ready to peak 3rd-up over a furlong further. Charged home to win a handy Super Maiden 1st-up at Dubbo before flopping as a short-priced favourite in a CL1 at Muswellbrook on a very shifty surface. Back on firmer footing in a race of less depth is the right recipe to claim a 2nd career win; again coming from off speed

DANGERS: 1. **He's My Warrior; 2. **Lord Of The Sun; 5. *My Angel Shell; 10. *The Mystery Guy

Likely Tempo: Solid
My BET PLAN: SIR HERRIDAH to WIN & Box Exacta: 1,2,7

*RACE 6 @ 4.10pm MURRAVALE RETIREMENT HOME BENCHMARK 66 HCP (1600m) - Min Weight 55kg; Apprentices Can Claim:

TOP SELECTION: 2. ZELESTIAL (Lyle Chandler/Jacob Stiff a2kg; 57.5kg & barrier 5) -up in grade we go for a good competitive battle over the mile; and rating on top is this talented & hard fit 5YO mare by Zoustar who can bounce back from a flop at Scone deep into the campaign. Swept home for a dominant win in weaker grade at Dubbo 4 starts ago before 2 mixed runs without much luck against similar BM 66 opposition at Taree and Armidale. Covered too much ground at her latest outing over 1700m against an on-speed pattern; and is much better suited here from a middle draw and with some weight relief. Can settle closer in the run on a preferred firmer surface; and crucially in a race of less depth

DANGERS: 4. *Piccaderro; 7. *Big Short; 8. **Think Back

Likely Tempo: Reasonable to Solid
My BET PLAN: ZELESTIAL to WIN & Trifecta: 2,8/2,4,7,8/2,4,7,8

*RACE 7 @ 4.50pm QUIRINDI RURAL HERITAGE VILLAGE CLASS 1 HCP (1100m) - Min Weight 55kg; Apprentices Can Claim:

TOP SELECTION: 7. FARNCIFUL (Jason Deamer/Ben Looker; 56kg & barrier 2) -we close the big day with the lower class sprinters; and very keen on this provincial-based & lightly raced 3YO filly by Farnan who is well placed to make it 2 wins from her last 3 & 4th-up in her 1st full prep. Let down nicely from midfield to claim her maiden 2 starts ago; before working home late in a deeper CL1 3 weeks back after being supported from $4.60 into $4.20. That run reads strong for this over 100m further; settling a bit closer in the run from a lower draw and with a key gear change

DANGERS: 2. *Currumbin Alley; 3. *Bent As Hell; 9. *Bonoyster

Likely Tempo: Solid
My BET PLAN: FARNCIFUL to WIN

**My BEST EARLY BETS:

R1 1. EXTREMELY PERFECT - Price Range: $3.25-$3.50; My Rating: $2.15
R5 7. SIR HERRIDAH - Price Range: $3.25 - $3.60 - My Rating: $2.18

**My BEST EARLY VALUE:

R7 7. FARNCIFUL - Price Range: $4.25 - $4.50; My Rating: $2.30

**My BEST EARLY EXOTICS:

R4 First Four: 4,8/1,3,4,8,13,14/1,3,4,8,13,14/1,3,4,8,13,14
R5 Box Exacta: 1,2,7
R6 Trifecta: 2,8/2,4,7,8/2,4,7,8
