What a season it has been!
As we close out another incredible year of the Basketball United Roster, we want to take a moment to say a massive THANK YOU to every single person who has played a part in making 2026 so special.
Once again, we have had an amazing season filled with great basketball, fantastic games, new faces, new coaches, new Match Managers, developing referees and, most importantly, an incredible basketball community.
Year after year, we continue to grow in leaps and bounds, and that simply wouldnโt be possible without the incredible people who continue to give their time, energy and passion to this roster.

Win, lose or draw, you have represented your clubs with pride, and we have loved having you be part of Basketball United. We hope to see you all back again for many seasons to come!
๐ To our referees, THANK YOU!๏ฟฝThank you for giving your time, stepping onto the court and continuing to learn and develop. Watching our referees grow from strength to strength has been one of the real highlights of the season. We are incredibly proud of each and every one of you.
And a special thank you to the amazing mentors who continue to support, guide and encourage our referees. Your experience, patience and willingness to give back is helping build the next generation of officials.

These young players have been recognised for showing the true Spirit of George demonstrating kindness, courage, sportsmanship, encouragement.
The Spirit of George Award is about so much more than basketball. It celebrates those special players who make their team, their opponents and our basketball community a better place simply by being themselves.

A huge congratulations to Stella , who has taken out our Referee Quiz Challenge held over the school holidays! ๐๐
As part of our continued referee development, our referees were given the opportunity to put their knowledge to the test, answering questions about the rules and everything that comes with being a great referee. It was fantastic to see so many of our referees get involved!
Stella not only topped the quiz, but also gave an awesome response to our tie-breaker question: โWhy do you referee?โ
โI became a referee because I love basketball and wanted to be more involved in the game. I want to be fair, support the players and other referees, and help make every game enjoyable for everyone.โ
Well done, Stella, a fantastic result and an even better reminder of what being a referee is all about. Weโre incredibly proud to have you as part of our referee family! ๐

๐ Spirit of George Weekend 2026 ๐
What a fantastic weekend of basketball as teams from across our community came together for the Spirit of George Weekend, held in honour of George McNees.
The weekend was a wonderful celebration of the values that George embodied: fun, sportsmanship, respect, inclusion, and a love of the game. It was inspiring to see players of all ages competing with enthusiasm, supporting their teammates, encouraging their opponents, and creating lasting memories on and off the court.
A huge thank you to all players, coaches, volunteers, officials, and families who embraced the true Spirit of George and helped make the weekend such a success.
Georgeโs legacy continues to live on through the way our basketball community comes together, plays fair, and puts enjoyment of the game at the heart of everything we do.

What a weekend it has been at our Spirit of George Gala Weekend
A massive thank you to our incredible referees and Match Managers who gave up their weekend to help make this special event run so smoothly.
From the first whistle to the final buzzer, our referees were absolutely fantastic, letting the games flow, explaining rules when needed, encouraging the kids and, most importantly, getting right into the spirit and fun of the weekend!
Our Match Managers were just as amazing, keeping everything organised, games running smoothly and ensuring we stayed on time and on track, throughout the weekend.
These events simply couldn't happen without the people who volunteer their time behind the scenes and on the court. Your patience, professionalism, energy and willingness to be part of something so special means more than you know.
And a very special THANK YOU to Jonathan Morffew Alicia Kamaric Lou Watts and Maria Williams for all of your time, effort and support throughout the weekend. We truly appreciate everything you have done. ๐

In January this year, Lockieโs world changed when he was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma (Bile Duct RMS).
Since then, Lockie has been travelling to Melbourne for ongoing treatment, facing everything that has been thrown his way with incredible courage and strength. His journey has included major surgery to remove a tumour, countless treatments, and so many difficult days that no child should ever have to face.
Lockie still has two more rounds of chemotherapy ahead of him, but despite everything, he was determined to be part of this very special weekend.
And what made this weekend even more special was seeing Lockie back on the basketball court for his first game since his diagnosis
There were smiles, excitement, a few nerves and, most importantly, a beautiful reminder that cancer may be part of Lockieโs journey, but it does not define who he is.
Lockie is a true warrior. His strength, resilience and determination have inspired everyone around him. To see him back on the court, doing something he loves and surrounded by his basketball family, was a moment that will stay with us for a very long time.
Welcome back to the court, Lockie.
Keep fighting, keep smiling and keep being the incredible warrior that you are.
We are all behind you for those final two rounds. One game, one day and one step at a time.

There are moments this weekend that remind you exactly what basketball, and the Spirit of George, is all about.
Darcy scoring his very first ever basketball goal, ๐ฅน๐โฆ Feliks not even blinking an eyelid before pulling on the opposition jersey to make sure they had a fifth playerโฆ and our beautiful girls putting on their own little cheerleading show from the bench during their game, proudly waving their gorgeous towels donated by the JackJumpers and Jewels.
Weโve seen kids travelling, double dribbling, skipping, cheering, laughing and celebrating every little moment.
Weโve seen first goals, first games, new friendships, teamwork, encouragement and, most importantly, kids having FUN, The smiles have been everywhere. ๐ฅฐ
This weekend isnโt about the score. Itโs not about who wins or loses.
Itโs about creating those little moments that become big memories. Itโs about inclusion, kindness, friendship and giving every child the chance to feel like they belong.
And itโs about honouring and remembering George. โค๏ธ
What an incredibly special environment to be surrounded by this weekend.
