Common yet incorrect Squat cues and my theories of why they are used.
Put/Keep the weight on your heels - This is to reinforce the positioning as people lose mobility they tend to lift there heels of the ground.
Don't let the knees track over the toes - There is an exercise called the Sissy Squat which places the knee far beyond the toes and creates a high level of stress on the knee.
Correct Cues are as follows
3 points of contact with the ground, big toe, little toe, heel, this will transfer the weight to the midfoot and reinforce good positioning up the chain.
Hips/Sit down not back
The knees should track over toes slightly as having a upright shin can increase pressure/strain on the knee joint.

The term functional training actually doesn't make sense as the definition of training implies functionality. The term functional exercise would be more accurate.
If you're using tools to enhance your recovery, whether that's foam rolling, massage, ice baths or some form of compression you're reducing your ability to adapt to a particular stimulus.
I'm not saying these tools don't work, it just depends where you are within your training block.
The primary sources for recovery should come from your diet and sleep. The next step would be to look at your training program and movement patterns, to see if a particular movement needs adjustment or if a deload/taper is necessary.

Muay Thai - The art of eight limbs.
There are a number of benefits of training in any martial art, such as the learning and development of personal attributes such as discipline, honour, respect, among others. Muay Thai taught me this, it also developed my cardiovascular conditioning and muscular endurance as the art uses your whole body throughout its movement patterns.
