⚫⚪ SLIGO — THE YEATS COUNTY ⚫⚪

Sligo may be one of Ireland’s smaller counties, but the black and white has produced some memorable teams and great Gaelic Games characters across football, ladies football and hurling.

🏐 MEN’S FOOTBALL
🏆 3 Connacht Senior Championships — 1928, 1975 & 2007.
⭐ Greats include Mickey Kearins, Eamonn O’Hara, Paul Taylor, Dessie Sloyan & Mark Breheny.
🔥 The 2007 Connacht triumph ended a 32-year wait, with Eamonn O’Hara playing a huge role in that famous victory.

👩 🏐 LADIES FOOTBALL
🏆 All-Ireland Junior Champions — 2006
A landmark achievement for Sligo Ladies and an important moment in the development of the women’s game across the county.

🏑 HURLING
🏆 2 Nicky Rackard Cups — 2008 & 2019
🏆 1 Lory Meagher Cup — 2018
The back-to-back national successes of 2018 and 2019 were a brilliant period for Sligo hurling and helped establish the county at a higher level.

👩 🏑 CAMOGIE
Camogie is now entering an exciting new chapter in Sligo, with the county’s first dedicated camogie board established in 2025 as the game continues to grow at grassroots level.

From the football heroes of 1975 and 2007 to the recent rise of Sligo hurling, the Yeats County has always punched above its weight — proud, passionate and fiercely protective of the black and white. ⚫⚪

Meath has a proud tradition across football, ladies football, hurling and camogie, with the famous green and gold synonymous with toughness and resilience.

💙💛 TIPPERARY — AT THE HEART OF GAELIC GAMES 💙💛

Few counties have contributed more to the history of the GAA than Tipperary.

It was in Hayes’ Hotel, Thurles, on 1 November 1884 that the Gaelic Athletic Association was founded, with Tipperary man Maurice Davin becoming its first President.

Three years later, Tipperary won the first-ever All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship in 1887, beginning a hurling tradition that would make Tipp one of the giants of the game.

From Jimmy Doyle and John Doyle, through Babs Keating and Nicky English, to Eoin Kelly, Lar Corbett, Pádraic Maher and Séamus Callanan, generations have worn the blue and gold with distinction.

And Tipperary’s Gaelic football history runs deep too. The county has won four All-Ireland Senior Football titles, while the story of Michael Hogan, the Tipperary footballer killed on Bloody Sunday in Croke Park in 1920, remains forever woven into GAA and Irish history. The Hogan Stand proudly carries his name.

A century later, Tipp honoured that generation by wearing green and white and winning the 2020 Munster Football Championship — their first since 1935.

From Hayes’ Hotel to Semple Stadium, from Bloody Sunday to All-Ireland glory, Tipperary’s story is about far more than sport.

It’s history, community, identity and generations carrying the tradition forward.

• Semple Stadium, Thurles remains one of the great spiritual homes of hurling
