Happy Australia Day Weekend, folks! In Sydney, we are currently experiencing less than BBQ perfect weather (think back to the first few days of the National Championship)! On another note, the word on the street a few hours north of Sydney, is that about 30 + NSW kids are having a blast up at Team Slmasc (the home of the NSW Trinity Point Optimist State Championshipthip that's happening in March) this Australia Day weekend! Adam Beashel, an experienced sailor - not sure if he's sailed an Optimist before, but trust me, he's a good sailor and knows what he's doing, is coaching the more experienced sailors at this fun sailing weekend camp! Lanee Beashel took out a group of Green fleet kids (riding in an Opti herself!) showing them how it's done. Those kids are very lucky to have the opportunity to have fun with and learn from the group at SLMASC. The weather was cloudy and a bit threatening when a southerly blew through a little while ago so the kids are on a break. The weather is still looking a bit ominous, so the sailors are all having fun running around and playing. Tonight the kids will be having a sleepover in the clubhouse with movies, snacks and other fun and games!

Many thanks again to all of the 2016 Australian & Open International Optimist Dinghy Championship sponsors, one of whom will be the title sponsor next year, Gill Australia! We are also looking forward to making the trek in 2017 to one of my personal all time favorite cities in Australia, Adelaide! The Largs Bay Sailing Club will be hosting the event and we are super excited about it!

As a reminder - all photo orders must be completed by January 31st. After this date, the galleries will not be available. I wish I could keep them up forever, but sadly, I can't. If after that date you decide you want photos, I will have them on one of my backups, but there will be an additional fee for orders after January 31. Also, I only keep images on backup for 1 year. So, please, if you would like photos, make sure you take a look through the galleries before the 31st, and if you are a state association, please let your followers know that there is just over a week left to order.

This is Jamie from Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club in Western Australia. Some really great hiking and getting around the top mark in the choppy swell we had on day three of the Australian Optimist Nationals.

**Also, as a reminder, photo orders are available online until January 31st! If you haven't checked the gallery, make sure you do before then. There is a search function on the upper right section of the website - just enter your bow number, sail number or boat name (try all three as photos could have been tagged by one or more of the search criteria). It's also possible that an image wasn't tagged (I have been working quite late at night and might have missed something!) so if you have time, take a cursory scroll through the galleries if nothing appears in the search.

These two sailors are from Western Australia. Axel placed 7th in the Open Fleet and is part of the AOST. His sister is an up and coming Intermediate fleet sailor that handled last weeks extreme weather conditions really well, and stylishly, if I might add! :-)
