👀 If you looked out at the western sky last night and thought you were seeing things... you weren't alone! Here is what’s happening tonight.

If you looked out toward the western horizon last night around 8:00 PM and thought you saw some bizarre, moving objects near that incredibly bright "star" (which is actually the planet Venus), you weren't imagining things!
Skywatchers are tracking a wave of "strange light" sightings right now, and the peak of the action is happening again tonight.
Here is what’s actually going on, and how you can see it for yourself:
🔭 THE PHENOMENON
Right now, Venus is putting on an absolute show, blazing at near peak brilliance low in the western sky. Because the sky is pitch-black by 8:00 PM, it creates a massive "visual anchor." As high-altitude satellite constellations glide through the upper atmosphere, their flat panels catch the sun at a precise angle far above us. To the naked eye, they look like silent, glowing objects suddenly flaring to life, drifting past Venus, and then blinking out of existence as they enter Earth's shadow.
🚗 HOW TO VIEW IT TONIGHT
You don't need any special equipment to see it, just a good vantage point:
* Find somewhere open with a completely clear, uninterrupted view of the western sky.
* Look for an elevated spot, a wide clearing, or a quiet roadside away from bright streetlights and tree lines.
⏰ THE TIMING
While Venus is visible earlier, the absolute best viewing window is between 7:45 PM and 8:30 PM. This is when the sky is dark enough to give you maximum contrast, making the moving satellite tracks look incredibly vivid before Venus sets for the night.

When you see an object flare up, just point your phone's camera at the sky—the app will overlay a live map showing you the exact name of the satellite and its orbital path!
Bring some binoculars if you have them—you’ll be able to see the reflections bouncing off the hardware as they pass by!
