What an absolutely incredible weekend!
A huge thank you to all teams, competitors, marshals, support, and spectators who attended Abbeystowe Challenger 2026. It is all of you who continue to make this event a great success.

And it is because of this success, this year we were able to host the first Women's 12v12 tournament in Australian history! An important step for our Australian buhurt women on the international stage. Congratulations to all the women competing!

Every year the level of competition exceeds the last. We are grateful to be a part of the exceptional growth happening in Australian buhurt. We hope to continue being an event that promotes remarkable competitors and extraordinary teams.

A massive thank you to everyone who helped organise the event, those who helped set up and pull down the lyst, and those who helped clean up. None of this would've been able to happen without your help.

Lastly, a huge thank you to Abbeystowe for being absolutely fantastic cohosts and allowing us to use their amazing grounds.

Rest up everyone and we will see you all at the next tournament!

⚔️ MYTH vs FACT - Buhurt Edition ⚔️

You might think you know what Buhurt is… but some things might surprise you. Here are five myths and facts about the historically based sport:

❌ MYTH: It’s staged like a medieval show.
✅ FACT: Buhurt is a real competitive sport with international rules, referees (marshals) and trained athletes.

❌ MYTH: The weapons are fake.
✅ FACT: Fighters use real steel weapons, but they are specially designed with blunted edges for safety.

❌ MYTH: The armour is lightweight.
✅ FACT: A full kit can weigh 30–40kg, and fighters still run, grapple and wrestle in it.

❌ MYTH: It’s just swinging swords.
✅ FACT: Buhurt allows grappling, takedowns and team tactics, making it as much about strategy as strength.

❌ MYTH: Once you’re hit, you’re out.
✅ FACT: Fighters stay in the battle until they are knocked down or grounded. It’s intense. It’s physical. And it’s incredible to watch live.
