A huge congratulations to Abbey Medieval Festival on their sold out event in record time! 🎊

If you're wanting some medieval combat and a great weekend we will be co-hosting the Abbeystowe Challenger Clash on May 30th and 31st ⚔️

It will be a huge weekend of buhurt - full contact medieval combat and there will be a little medieval village and live entertainment. This event is very different to the festival but will be full of non-stop fighting.

Almost 150 fighters are travelling from all over Australia to compete 🤩

What is Buhurt? ⚔️

Buhurt is a modern combat sport inspired by the tournaments of the Middle Ages.
Fighters enter the arena wearing full steel armour and using blunt steel weapons, competing in full‑contact battles that test strength, teamwork and endurance.

Unlike staged reenactments, Buhurt is a real sport governed by international rules and referees (called marshals - in yellow) who oversee safety, equipment checks and fair play.

How it works:
Teams compete in formats such as 5 vs 5 or 12 vs 12. The goal is to knock opponents to the ground. Once a fighter falls or touches the ground with anything other than their feet, they are eliminated from that round until only one team remains standing.

The rules:
✔ Grappling, pushing and throwing are allowed
✔ Fighters wear historically inspired armour inspected before battle
❌ Thrusting or stabbing attacks are prohibited for safety
❌ Strikes to dangerous areas such as the neck or back of the knees are forbidden
