BaldMan Tip:
You may notice that the same lures keep popping up in my happy snaps and videos😂
Well over the years I have narrowed down particular lures that are successful when towing them inside the harbour and around the headlands.
There are two major factors you to consider when targeting top water fish on the troll.
1. What are the fish feeding on
2. The water conditions
Before I decide what on a lure to pull out the back of the boat, my brain goes into overdrive thinking about the two factors above.
The most important factor in fooling any fish to hook up is to make whatever is hanging off your hook similar to what they are feeding on.
To improve your catch rate you need to consider what the fish are chasing. Are they chasing large baits such as squid and slimey/yakka or tiny baits such as white bait?
We always have a look at the stomach contents of fish kept for the table or bait for a snapper session to see what they have been feeding on.
For example salmon stomachs inside the harbour are usually full of tiny white baits (quite often coughing the up when removing hooks) and around the headlands often find large baits such as yakkas/slimey mackerel in their stomach.
So knowing the size and type of bait they are eating you will improve your likelihood of getting a hook up by replicating your lure to the bait fish. Simple right😂
Well the is one other factor I think that is important as mentioned above... water conditions... and I will talk about that in another post😉
