The Quest for a Cure - Sydney to Byron on Foot

I lost my fiancée to Ovarian Cancer in 2023. Walking from Sydney to Byron Bay in memory of Michelle & to raise Funds & Awareness. My aim? she spoke her mind.

I'm Behn, I reside on the Central Coast NSW and I run small business down in Sydney, Rockdale (Camera Warehouse) But the following story I’m about to share is much more than just business. On Saturday 18 May 2024, you'll find me lacing up my sneakers for an epic trek from Sydney all the way up to Byron Bay – that's approx.. 800 kilometres. To hit Byron by June 3rd, maybe even earlier, putting down

13 November

Today marks two years since you left us, Michelle.

Your courage and your fight against ovarian cancer stay with me every day. This disease is devastating — around 1,800 women in Australia are diagnosed each year, and more than 1,000 lose their lives. Survival is still around 49%, and there is still no early detection test.

In your honour, we walked 800+ km from Sydney to Byron Bay and raised over $50,000. Through Camera Warehouse, we’ve donated every order and raised $13,151 for the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation — and we’ll keep going.

My bike accident this year slowed me down physically, but it didn’t stop the mission. I’ll be back out there, walking further, raising more, and fighting harder until this disease is gone.

Michelle — you’re with us in every step forward.

🌟 We Did It! Goal Achieved and Beyond! 🌟

Hello everyone,

With immense joy and deep gratitude, I’m thrilled to announce that we’ve not only met our fundraising goal of $50,000 but exceeded it, raising a total of $50,175 by June 30, 2024. This incredible milestone was reached thanks to your unwavering support and generosity through our GoFundMe and Camera Warehouse fundraising pages:

As we move forward, our commitment to fighting ovarian cancer continues, and we are now proudly supporting the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF). With statistics on ovarian cancer remaining stagnant for over 30 years, it’s clear that research is desperately needed. OCRF focuses intensely on this critical work, and we are determined to support their groundbreaking research efforts. Already, $3,560 has been raised for OCRF and see our ongoing contributions: here: https://www.ocrf.com.au/my-fundraising/744/quest-for-a-cure---sydney-to-byron-bay-on-foot

Ovarian Cancer Australia has been a beacon of support and awareness, providing invaluable assistance during Michelle’s darkest times. Their dedication and the beautiful souls working there have not only supported my fiancée but countless others navigating this tough battle. Thank you, OCA, for everything you do and for being there for Michelle and me.

Looking ahead, we’re not slowing down. Plans are underway for an event around October/November this year. While I can’t reveal too much yet, let’s just say it involves boogie and good music — a tribute to Michelle’s love for dancing and joyous celebrations. Stay tuned for more details!

Together, we are making a tangible impact, and our fight against ovarian cancer continues with renewed strength.

Thank you once again for standing with us, for your kindness, and for believing in this cause. Together, we’re not just dreaming of a future free from ovarian cancer—we’re making it a reality.

Firstly, I want to express my immense gratitude for your support—we have raised an incredible $48,019 towards our $50,000 goal for "Quest for a Cure - Sydney to Byron on Foot."

Given the hardship and tough times a lot of people are facing, this is a MASSIVE effort. THANK YOU!!!!!!

HUGE Thanks to family, friends (immediate & extended), our customers, suppliers, all the beautiful people we met on our journey, and all that we haven’t had the pleasure of meeting. With just three days left until our deadline at the end of June, I am confident we’ll achieve our target as we still have couple of piggie banks to crack open which will hopefully take place tomorrow 😊

I must also apologize for being quiet on my end since the walk concluded on June 1st. The past few weeks have been a time of deep personal reflection and emotional challenges for me. I’ve been grappling with the weight of our journey and what it represents, alongside diving deep into the business to steady our course forward.

Together, we are making a real difference. Thank you for being part of this crucial journey, Sydney to Byron was just the beginning, the Quest continues, stay tuned for our next event. We wont stop until together, we can make ovarian cancer a thing of the past. 💜

With gratitude and hope,

Behn

WOW, what a turnout!

The first steps are officially underway for Quest For A Cure - Sydney to Byron Bay.

Behn would like to express his deepest gratitude to all who came this morning to show support for this marathon event.

To all the suppliers who came along and those who walked the first day, you are absolutely amazing.

To all those who kept us all fed and caffeinated, especially Alexander's Bakery South Side who spent all night in front of hot ovens to ensure we had enough to feed an army, you are MVPs.

And most importantly, thanks to the many family and friends who have supported throughout this entire journey, all the love in the world goes out to you.

For everyone following along here and who attended this morning at Camera Warehouse, thank you, your support does not go unnoticed.

Day 1 may be coming to an end, but the journey has just begun!

🙏

Please stay tuned for regular updates along the journey.
