Big Mal Meninga laying down the Law!

During the pre-game huddle of State of Origin Game 1 in 1993, a Channel 9 broadcaster microphone accidentally caught captain Mal Meninga laying down the law.

Unaware that the audio was being broadcast completely unbleeped to millions of viewers at home right before the national anthem, Meninga delivered a fiery, explicit tactical rev-up:"They won't make any yards against us. We've got to do it for 40 minutes, have a rest and another 40... They will get so frustrated with our fing us, fing tackle on the fing...*"

The commentators quickly cut away, but the passionate, unfiltered look into an Origin huddle became instant rugby league folklore.Watch the raw, unedited footage of the infamous 1993 pre-match huddle:

Last Minute: Sam Walker

In Round 18 of the 2021 NRL season, Sydney Roosters halfback Sam Walker secured a 22-16 win over the Bulldogs by running approximately 90-95 metres in the wrong direction in the dying seconds, killing the clock until the siren sounded. The play became one of the most unorthodox and talked-about moments of the season:

The Situation: With only 20 seconds left on the clock and the Roosters defending a narrow 22-16 lead, Walker received the ball deep in Canterbury territory.

The Tactic: Instead of attacking or kicking a field goal, he turned around and sprinted all the way back towards his own in-goal area, eventually running over the sideline as the full-time siren blew.

The Reaction: The play sparked heavy debate, dividing fans and commentators between those who labeled it unsportsmanlike and those who praised his brilliant game-management.Coach's Stance: Roosters coach Trent Robinson publicly backed the rookie, stating Walker was "smart" to take the risk out of the final play.

Rule Check: The NRL’s Head of Football, Graham Annesley, reviewed the incident and confirmed Walker's actions were entirely within the rules.

Origins: It was later revealed that this clock-killing strategy was a tactic the teenage prodigy had been taught by his father and uncle at the Ipswich Jets.
