Before I understood what hypothalamic amenorrhea was, I thought I was just... tired. Stressed. A little burned out. Normal, right?
Wrong.
My body was running on cortisol and adrenaline, the backup fuel system your body activates when it thinks it's in danger. And when you're constantly in that mode, everything suffers.
Here's what that actually looks like day to day:
đ„¶ Always cold â especially hands and feet (your body is rationing heat)
đŽ Exhausted even after 8 hours of sleep (your nervous system never fully rests)
đȘź Hair loss or thinning (your body deprioritises non-essential functions)
đ Low or no s*x drive (reproduction feels unsafe to your body)
đ€ Mood swings, anxiety, irritability (hello, elevated cortisol)
đ«ïž Brain fog that makes simple decisions feel hard
đ¶âđ«ïž Feeling disconnected from your body or emotions
The cruel irony? Many women with MISSING PERIODS are doing "all the right things": eating clean, training hard, managing stress. But their body is reading the situation differently.
These aren't personality flaws. They're symptoms. And they're telling you something important.
If you relate to more than 3 of these, your next step is getting clear on what to actually do about it. My free ebook â 10 Fundamental Steps to Get Your Period Back â walks you through exactly that.

I was eating salads, training daily, and drinking my greens. I thought I was the picture of health.
My hormones had a different opinion.
Here's what the science actually says: your hypothalamus doesn't care how clean your food is.
It cares about energy availability: the amount of energy left over for basic biological functions after exercise is accounted for.
The term for this is LEA: Low Energy Availability.
When your body doesn't have enough fuel left over after you've trained, it enters a kind of triage mode. Non-essential systems get shut down. And reproduction â from your body's survival perspective â is non-essential.
So it stops ovulation. No ovulation = no period.
This isn't about being "too thin" or eating "unhealthy." I see this in women who:
â
Eat whole foods exclusively
â
Exercise moderately
â
Look completely healthy from the outside
The problem isn't what you eat. It's how much. Your body is doing elaborate math in the background, and if the numbers don't add up to safety, it will protect you by shutting reproduction down.
The fix isn't eating junk. It's eating enough. More carbs. More fats. More rest. More fuel for all the living you're doing.

Eat 2,500 calories.
Donât walk. Donât train.
Take 10+ supplements.

When youâre not eating enough to match your energy output,
especially if youâre training hard, under chronic stress, or stuck in food rules,
your body shifts into survival mode.
One of the first things it does? It shuts down your reproductive system to conserve energy.
But hereâs what many donât realize:
đ Missing periods = missing estrogen
đ Missing estrogen = accelerated bone loss
Estrogen is essential not just for fertility but for bone density, brain function, mood, and heart health. If your periods are MIA for months (or years), your bones are silently weakening.
Even in your 20s and 30s.
This is not just about fertility.
This is about your long-term health span.
The good news? Your body is incredibly smart and resilient. With the right stepsânutritionally, mentally, and physicallyâyou can get your period and fertility back.
I've helped hundreds of women do just that.

Then 5 more tomorrow
And extend it to emails, YouTube, conversations, and anything that adds noise instead of support
Youâre not just âcleaning upâ your feed.
Youâre rewiring your brain and creating space for the version of you that feels:
balanced
at peace with food
đ free
Now pause and do this one thing:

âJust follow your intuition.â
Thatâs what they sayâŠ
But what if your âintuitionâ is shaped by fear?
By years of body shame, control, restriction, and trauma?
For women struggling with missing periods, fertility issues, and fear of weight gain â
your âintuitionâ might not be intuition at all.
It might be the voice of:
đ„ A disordered system saying âdonât eat moreâ
đȘ A survival response screaming âdonât rest, youâre lazyâ
đ§ An anxious loop whispering âyouâll lose everything if you let go of controlâ
đ§ A shutdown body saying âthis feels uncomfortable⊠abort missionâ when you try something new
This isnât your inner wisdom talking.
Itâs the voice of a dysregulated nervous system trying to keep you safe in all the wrong ways.
So no â following your âintuitionâ isnât always the best ideaâŠ
Not when the body it lives in has been silenced, punished, ignored.
Real healing begins when you learn to decode your signals:
When you realize that discomfort â danger
That hunger â a lack of willpower
That softness â failure
That gaining weight â losing worth
The women I work with learn to tell the difference between fear and truth
Between trauma-responses and true inner guidance.
And from that place?
Their cycles come back.
Their bodies soften and open.
They reclaim their fertility â their fire â their freedom.
âš So if your âintuitionâ is telling you to eat less, work harder, or wait a little longer...
Ask yourself:
Is this wisdom?
Or is this fear wearing a mask?

A missing cycle is not harmless!
Your period is a vital sign of your hormonal, metabolic and bone health. When it disappears, itâs often your body signalling that it doesnât have enough energy or resources to support both daily function and reproductive health.
This can be associated with symptoms like fatigue, hair loss, poor recovery, disrupted sleep, low mood, and in the longer term, reduced bone density and risk of osteoporosis.
Itâs not about blame or perfection â itâs about understanding that the body will always prioritise survival over reproduction when energy is insufficient.
The good news is this is often reversible with the right support and changes to nourishment, training and stress load.
If your cycle has changed or gone missing, itâs worth paying attention. Your period is a vital sign, not an inconvenience. đ€

âHow did you get your period back?â
Let me tell youâŠ
It didnât come from a quick fix, a perfect meal plan, or doing everything âright.â
It came from slowly changing the way I supported my body and responded to fear, stress, and discomfort.
I started eating even when I felt scared or uncomfortableâŠespecially when my body was telling me it needed more.
I learned that consistency matters more than comfort in the moment.
I challenged fear foods instead of avoiding them, even when my brain told me it wasnât safe. Over time, food stopped feeling like something to control and became something that supported me.
I slowed down âŠa lot. Not just with training, but with life. I stopped trying to push through exhaustion and started respecting how much rest my body actually needed.
I journaled regularly to understand my thoughts, fears, and patterns.
And I prioritised sleep and rest (proper sleep, naps, downtime) without guilt.
Getting my period back wasnât about forcing my body to comply.
It was about creating enough safety, energy, and consistency for my hormones to function again.
And if your cycle is missing right now, it means your body needs support, not more pressure đ€

Youâre doing everything right...
â
Eating âenoughâ
â
Have modified your workouts
â
Controlling every bite, every step, every ounce of effort
..yet your period is still missing.
Your energyâs tanked. Your libido is gone. Your body feels like itâs running on fumes.
And deep down, youâre scared.
Scared youâve done something wrong.
Scared youâll never get your period (or fertility) back.
Scared this is just how you are now.
Your body isnât against you, itâs just begging you to listen.
And healing doesnât start with doing moreâit starts with doing things differently.
âš Here are 5 tiny shifts that make a massive difference:
Prioritize Rest
Rest is not weakness. Itâs medicine. Deep sleep and slow days restore your hormones.
Nourish. Always. Mentally and Physically
Itâs not about being âperfect.â Itâs about giving your body enough to feel safe again.
Slow Down Your Workouts
High intensity is keeping you stuck. Gentle movement calms your nervous system and supports ovulation.
Reduce Stress, Every Damn Day
Because no amount of kale or ashwaganda will override a stressed-out system. Breathe. Journal. Say no.
Be Patient and Kind With Yourself
Healing isnât linear. But every small winâbetter sleep, warmer hands, clearer skinâmeans itâs working.
