When my therapist, Dr. Dan Siegel, diagnosed me in 1991 with multiple personality disorder (MPD) - today called dissociative identity disorder (DID) - my first reaction was relief: Finally!
For many clinicians, Dissociative Identity Disorder is still misunderstood—often portrayed as a punchline, a plot twist, or a Hollywood stereotype.
But therapists who work closely with dissociation know something very different: the distinct parts clients bring into therapy are not “pathology” to erase. They’re a brilliant adaptation to overwhelming trauma. As Sally Maslansky and Dan Siegel reminds us, these parts hold important information and help clients survive when life feels unbearable.
Read more of Sally Maslansky's thoughts on what it really takes to help clients with DID heal: building safety and trust, working skillfully with dissociated parts, and supporting clients as they integrate their experiences on their own terms.

From treating symptoms to regulating the brain: https://www.facebook.com/psychologsmagazine/posts/pfbid036JjiJ7YASaA3iUGofcWzwVQEbHuAdyk2aA1aAbo6yoSNoxfFMdSSZ8mBUK5d5Ha5l
For years, mental health treatment focused on “feeling better.” But neuroscience shows that true healing goes deeper. Anxiety, depression, and trauma are not just thoughts; they are patterns rooted in how the brain and body respond to stress.
Modern psychotherapy is shifting toward neural regulation, helping the brain restore balance, build resilience, and rewire itself through neuroplasticity. It’s not about fixing you. It’s about helping your system feel safe enough to function the way it was meant to.

This blog is about psychosynthesis supervision and cultivating the practise of spaciousness in supervision & therapy.
Having trained in psychosynthesis psychotherapy in the UK over 25 years ago, I was deeply moved to reconnect recently with my psychotherapy trainers, but this time for supervisor continued professional development. As soon as our (overnight for me) workshop started, I felt at home as we began in the psychosynthesis time-honoured way, with a body, feelings, mind meditation. This reflective practice helps us to identify with body, feelings, mind (and thoughts), disidentify from the parts, and then self-identify. The self (small s) in psychosynthesis is akin to the conductor of the orchestra – capable of directing, integrating and synthesising the various parts of the personality.

Your thoughts?
Since the roll-out of the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) service in 2007-8, NHS primary care psychological therapy has been monopolised by short-term cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). What is now called NHS Talking Therapies (NHS TT) hardly qualifies as psychotherapy at all. It might more appropriately be called psychological education, encouraging people to adapt to the conditions of their lives.

FAO Therapists, last year's Soul-Centred Vision for Your Private Practice workshop was a beautiful morning of slowing down, turning inward, and giving space for the soul-self to speak.
Next Sunday (18th), I will be holding another soul-centred space. If you’re feeling the call to begin the year with clarity, creativity, and meaning, I warmly invite you to join me.
Through guided visualisation, creative expression, and shared reflection, you will have the opportunity to connect deeply with what is seeking to emerge next - in private practice, your work, or your next meaningful project.

Supporting autonomy in young people with gender dysphoria: psychotherapy is not conversion therapy - PubMed Opinion is divided about the certainty of the evidence base for gender-affirming medical interventions in youth.
