I am still in disbelief while writing this
2025 I was lucky enough to win a burnout masters golden ticket at Powerfest, I couldn’t have been happier to get the opportunity to skid in the masters yet again and at a new venue which I had never been to before and I was not going to pass that up!
Fast forward to late January 2026 and the excitement was building as my good mates Erik and Mat began the trek to Sydney on Australia Day, we took the inland road as I wanted to see more of our beautiful country and boy did we see some new country, what better to do on Australia Day? Seeing new sites of our beautiful home and heading to a burnout comp!
During the trip down we made our way through Bathurst for a night and decided to drive the one and only Mount Panorama as I had never been and we wanted to visit a historic place for Motorsport while on a trip that was all about Motorsport!
The laughs, the good times and chats we shared on this trip was so bloody good, I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. Mat was our navigation expert and he did a great job of taking us through some incredible beautiful and scenic places of this great land, with the occasional missed turn due to all of us laughing or hanging s**t on each other 😂 but that’s easy to forgive because it’s all about the memories! And Erik our professional s**t stirrer and strange noise producer did what he does best and provided comedic relief, even when it wasn’t acceptable 😂
We arrived in Sydney a day early and relaxed until I had to go and pick up the one and only professional passenger turned driver Ashley from the train because he decided to fly down and meet us there for the weekend ( I knew he wouldn’t miss it for the world )
Friday morning finally arrives, the anticipation and excitement only growing with every tick of the clock and before we knew it the car was scrutineered and ready to hit the pad. We went out for the tip in comp to get a feel for the pad as I had never been to the venue let alone driving on that amazing pad. Rest assured even though it was the first time there, there was no holding back and the right foot was firmly planted on the loud pedal!
Two attempts at the tip in felt absolutely awesome and I was already in love with that big pad, could really stretch the legs and move around out there 😁 I decided to use up an extra set of tyres in the expression session because I just couldn’t get enough of that big burnout pad!
We watched the Burnanza competition and enjoyed the show, and then had a well earned rest.
Saturday morning we woke to the beautiful sound of a few blown engines hunting away and being warmed up coupled with the sweet aroma of methanol and we knew the day was going to be absolutely action packed and it certainly didn’t disappoint!
First group up, Burnout Masters round 1, so bloody excited to even just be a part of this, in such a damn huge field with a stupid amount of power in each and every car. We completed the skid with no problem and had an absolute blast!
Later in the day we were ready for round two all while losing plenty of body weight in sweat because it was so damn hot! Round 2 skid was even bloody better and man I just couldn’t get enough of that pad! I had so much fun! I went and gave it absolutely everything and that little Brinks Performance built LS just absolutely loves everything i throw at it!
I was start to getting the car ready to load onto the car trailer when Dad and the boys stopped me and said just wait, just in case. I wasn’t prepared or expecting to make the finals at all, I had no tyres left because I was having too much fun and used up all of them and that field of cars and drivers was absolutely stacked and honestly I was just over the moon to be a part of qualifying at the masters level.
Reluctantly I agreed to hold off loading the car as it was a 3 against 1 argument 😂 so we sat and waited, and by some miracle, they called HI RI2K at the end of the top 10 list! In shock and awe I hugged my Dad and the boys as they let out cheers of joy and excitement, I still can’t believe it now that I was good enough to be put on the top list of the toughest cars and drivers in the country and the only N/A car to boot!
Years ago, I thought about how damn cool it would be to just make it onto the top 10 burnout masters list as an N/A car and all of a sudden there I was! Now, I know that there have been plenty of N/A cars that have been in the top 10 and even won the burnout master title and each and every one of them deserved that, but that was still a massive accomplishment for me, a little old N/A single carb LS1, E85 fed from little old North Queensland. I know I’m going on like I won the masters title but right now, but in all honesty it feels like I have won the biggest award there is and I am so damn proud and extremely grateful about this whole thing!
So what do we do now? We have no tyres left, we’ve been called for the final, definitely don’t want to miss it for the world, An absolute legend came to the rescue and offered up a set of Blue smoke tyres for us to use! Nathan with RUFRYD couldn’t have been more than happy to help especially when one of the wheels didn’t want to go on, so out came the grinder and the hammers and he set to work, he wasn’t going to see us miss out on this opportunity and mate, I can’t thank you enough, you are a shining example of the good people in the burnout scene, do anything to help others! You know we will get you back soon! Also a thank you to Mark with VXED for the offer of tyres as well, you’re a bloody legend!
Masters skid, my passenger Mat was way more nervous than I was, I was just soaking it all in, no nerves, no stomach turning, just in awe of the situation I found myself in and was completely enthralled and taking in every bit of it. We went out, killed tyres, put on a show, rim bashed, sparks everywhere, gee’d the crowd up and headed back to the pits. A little feeling of accomplishment coming over me at the end as we drove back to the pits on rims for the final time, being applauded and acknowledged by fellow competitors of the highest level was incredible as we passed them on route to our pit.
I parked the car, got out, shaking with adrenaline and full of excitement and realised where I was and what I had done. To say it was truly amazing to be a part of this is an understatement, I can’t describe what this entire experience was like for me.
I ended up with 10th overall and I was still ecstatic with that because whats not to be happy about that right? Especially after not expecting to progress to the finals after the 2 rounds!
Sunday morning very early we set off on our way back to Townsville, as but this time we were very tired and wanted to get home to our own beds sooner rather than later. We had completed a bit over 1300kms out of the 2200km trip home when the trailer hit a rather nasty lip on a culvert about 10km out of rolleston where we were planning to stay the night, at the time of impact the trailer pulled straight and carried on like nothing happened no cause for concern as it was acting normal, but as we pulled up in rolleston to get some dinner and look for a camp ground I spotted something sinister, the driver side centre spring hanger had torn the steel out of the frame. Over a pub feed and a quiet beer we deliberated on what we would do, eventually getting a hold of another amazing bloke in the burnout world, Ryan with Grumpy, lives in Emerald and couldn’t have been more happy to help, so we strapped the hanger up as tight and secure as possible and nursed it further down the road to Emerald.
I attempted to weld it back into place ( I am not a boiler maker by any stretch of the imagination so it looked very agricultural but we were giving it a go regardless ). We camped the night at Ryan’s and got up very early Monday morning again to get down the road as I knew we would be taking it very easy nursing this damage. As we were fuelling up Mat noticed that the passenger side had also began to tear the frame from the impact. So we made the decision to just ratchet strap both sides again to just keep them in place long enough to get home, a feeling of relief came over me as we pulled into Townsville jn one piece with no further damage or issues during the last 600km of the trip.
Being home and writing this is making me smile remembering the laughs and the jokes and the great time and scenery from the week past as something that will be remembered forever by all of us I’m sure!
Alright I know it’s a long post, thank you and congratulations if you’ve made it this far. Thank you to all of our sponsors and supporters that help in all different ways of this. I appreciate you all and I hope I’ve done you proud.

And with that, it’s now time for a break from burnouts, I have some things I want to do and I need a break for myself. I will be back later in the year for at least one other comp, I may end up doing another but we will see how things pan out in the coming months! Thanks all and I appreciate you all! Here’s some photos of our trip! Enjoy!
