Ultimate is a self-refereed game even at the highest levels. This means that players are in charge of the calls on the field and need to communicate with their opponents to resolve any issues on the fields.
The self-refereed aspect of Ultimate makes it great for youth of all ages to participate in as it empowers them to communicate clearly and respectfully- something lacking in mainstream sports where the ref has the final say!
Ultimate is a non-contact sport- under WFDF rules contact with another players cannot occur before, during or after making a play on the disc. This includes contact in the air (like a spekky in AFL) or on the ground as a player dives for a disc.

We don't have youth ultimate yet in Ipswich but the movement is growing in Brisbane. There are a couple of youth in Ipswich who travel into town every week to participate at Fairfield- we would love to see this reach grow as we look to building a local scene!

Ultimate 4s is a fast-moving and highly-involved way to get into the sport and is predicted to be the format the sport takes all the way to the Olympics!
In Ultimate 4s the field size is condensed and, as the name suggests, we see 4 players on each team move the disc from end zone to end zone. Four players on each team means there's nowhere to hide- all players are moving at the same time to create space and move the disc!

Whilst we presently don't have any regular offerings in the Ipswich region we have at least expanded to the western suburbs of Brisbane with regular play at Willawong and Fairfield.
If there's sufficient interest in disc related activities here we would love to get a game going in the Ipswich area over winter. Let us know if you're a local!
