🏏 WACC TALENT SERIES 🏏

A massive congratulations to the three Great Southern products who represented the region at the recent WACC Talent Series matches in Perth

Dash Germinario and Oliver Douglas both competed in the U18 male series, finishing 3rd and 4th respectively on the run scorers list

Tess Badger was selected in the U15 Female age group and finished second on the wicket takers list from her two matches

Well done to all involved in this new event on the Country Cricket calendar!

🏆 JUNIOR COACH OF THE YEAR 🏆

Congratulations are in order for Allan Hobley from Nyabing Cricket Club, who has just won Junior Coach of the Year at the WA Cricket Community Cricket Awards on Monday night

Allan has been an incredible coach and the driving force behind Nyabing's junior cricket revival, returning for the first time in nearly 40 years 🙌

🙌 VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH 🙌

A massive congratulations go to Callan Tonkin from the Newdegate Cricket Club, who was the Great Southern Volunteer of the Month for February

Callan has been the driving force behind the return of junior cricket in Newdegate. A brand new Cricket Blast program, along with kids now playing junior cricket for neighbouring clubs, have all been thanks to Callan's hard work

He has also led the Green Range Ongerup Cricket Association for the last two seasons, bringing them back to Senior Country Week, as well as introducing them to the Great Southern CA T20 competition

Thanks for everything you've done for cricket in your community Callan! A true asset to your club and community!

🏆 2025/26 COMMUNITY CRICKET AWARDS 🏆

A huge congratulations to all of the Great Southern representatives who have been named as finalists in the WA Cricket Community Cricket Awards for the 2025/26 season

We have 5 finalists from the region this season across 5 different awards categories, with winners to be announced at the awards night tonight

🏏 2026 REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT CARNIVAL 🏏

What a weekend it was for the Great Southern team at this seasons U14 Regional Development Carnival, hosted in Perth for the first time

The team performed extremely well on field, with some incredible individual performances along the way

Some notable highlights from the weekend include:
• Winning all four matches
• Alex Wright (Mount Barker) Most Runs - 209 @ Avg of 104.5 (incl scores of 91 & 89n.o)
• Owen Pretorius (Albany) Highest Score of 100n.o vs Peel
• Patrick House (Albany) & Ayrton Sedunary (Albany) Most Wickets - 6 each
• Campbell Hare (Albany) Best Bowling - 3/4 vs Mid-West
• Charlie Greenslade (Albany) - 6 catches

A huge thanks to Russell Hare (Albany) for his time and expertise in coaching the team. All the boys thoroughly appreciate your time and have all gone home better players from your coaching.

Lastly, a massive thankyou to the parents for their commitment to getting their kids to Perth and supporting them all weekend. A massive commitment, and I'm sure all the boys are extremely grateful!

🏏 GRAEME WOOD SHIELD 2026 🏏

A big congratulations to Great Southern Grammar, who took out this year's Graeme Wood Shield today

They went through the day undefeated, beating Albany Senior High School in the final game of the day to take out the title, winning by 10 wickets

Lochlan Otway (Denmark SHS) led the runscorers over the day with 102, while Beau Loton (Denmark SHS) was the leading wicket taker with 5

👏 COUNTRY WEEK MILESTONE 👏

A massive congratulations goes out to Graeme Weinert from Albany & Districts Cricket Association, who was recently given "Legend" status by the WA Country Cricket Board, after completing 30 consecutive years of Senior Country Week

Graeme made his Country Week debut in 1997 and has played all 30 years consecutively - an incredible achievement.
• 149 matches
• 2,520 runs (HS: 98)
• 104 wickets (Best: 6/6)

This is a massive achievement, and he joins a very small and illustrious list of names to have completed this feat. Congrats again to Graeme, and we hope there are plenty more years to come!

🏏 CRICKET BLAST IN BORDEN 🏏

It was great to get out to Borden Primary School to run a session with them and Ongerup Primary School last week

The visit was to help promote the brand-new Woolworths Cricket Blast program starting up in Borden, with the first session ran last week a huge success!

🙌 VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH 🙌

A massive congratulations to Allan Hobley from the Nyabing Cricket Club, who was the Great Southern Volunteer of the Month for January

Allan has been the key figure driving the growth of Cricket in Nyabing, culminating in a brand new U13 team this season, something that hasn't existed for 30+ years. Alongside wife Sarah, they have drawn in kids from Nyabing, Pingrup and Newdegate to provide opportunities for kids in small regional towns to play junior cricket, a huge achievement for towns of that size

Amazing work Allan (and Sarah!), this growth wouldn't be possible without your hard work, and we are very appreciative of your efforts so far!
