Pre season wrapped up:
Done and dusted! In what has been a long but exciting pre season for our pie girls having many new faces join our footy family. We’ve travelled inter state to play North Melbournes VFLW side, North of the state to play Hillwood and Lauderdale down South. We’ve also had a number of joint training sessions with the men and completed our amazing race. The girls have set their values for the season so now we are red hot and ready for round one!
Round one sees us take on reigning premiers North Hobart who still look incredibly strong but our girls are up for the fight. Adding more significance to the day is Ella Wagner playing her 100 club game.
100 games for Ella Wagner!
This weekend will be a special day for Womens football at our club, with Ella celebrating 100 career football games.
Ella's football career started off at Claremont JFC, then she moved to Glenorchy JFC and SFLW for Glenorchy.
We’ve loved watching her develop as a player and person, and she has quite the impressive resume!
- finished top 10 in the association best & fairest 2018 & 2019
- Won the Robert Beakley Medal in 2021
- Previous member of the North Melbourne Next Gen Academy
- STJFL Southern Rep side
- Tasmanian Devil squad member
- Premiership u17 player

Well done Nanna on a great game!
All the girls did so well, such a great effort and really looking forward to the season ahead. Thank you for the experience and thank you so much to all those involved who made it possible for our girls to strut their stuff. 🖤🤍🖤🤍
What a great group to lead our team in 2023!
Congratulations to all 🥳🌟
Welcome to the nest Temo, excited to have you 🤩
Another young gun signs for the Pies
TEMO ROBERTSON
Temo is a really talented young footballer who is incredibly powerful in a contest. She is rarely beaten one on one and can play a tight defensive role on the backline (ask Tarn Ford) 😆or can burst through packs in the midfield.
Temo played with Claremont FC last year and is now a member of the Devils squad.
Working hard on her fitness with both the Devils and our Girl Pies, we are super excited to unleash Temo on the competition this year.
Welcome to the Nest Temo 🖤🤍
Go Pies! 💪
Welcome 2023!!! 🤩
What a great club to be apart of 🖤🤍🖤🤍

Player to watch: Brooke Barwick 👀
You won’t miss her! Brooke Barwick is a speedy little midfielder with crazy good talent! She has found her feet this year taking every opportunity she gets to make the most of her abilities recently being selected in the All Australian side for the NAB AFLW under18’s. Brooke puts her heart into every contest and won’t stop until that final siren. Brooke is an instrumental part of our womens side and we’re so happy to have her at the pies. Get along and watch this young superstar strut her stuff on the footy field, you won’t believe your eyes!

Keep your eyes pealed to Shakala Yarran as she’ll pluck marks you wouldn’t imagine. Shakala is an up and coming junior that just keeps on getting better. Staring her football journey only last year Shakala has showed immense and continued improvement every game becoming a real player to watch in the future. Shakala has great pace for her size and her hand and foot skills are really developing to a great level. Get along to see for yourself 7:00 tonight at Twin Ovals 🏉🖤🤍🖤🤍
Just recapping an amazing day had with the North Melbourne AFLW community experience last Saturday morning. It was a really great opportunity for not only our Glenorchy girls but all the other Tassie girls invited along to be part of the morning. Everyone had a great time and really learnt and benefited from the experience being involved in a high performance environment is always educational and inspiring.
Thanks so much to Rhys Harwood North Melbournes list Manager and Darren Crocker (Croc) North’s AFLW Senior Coach, the club as a whole and particularly all the playing group for making this happen and for their welcoming and inclusive attitude.
At the completion of a group training session which included our Tassie devils and overages. The overages then participated in an intra-club practice match with some of them playing on and along side superstars of the competition like Ash Riddell, Emma Kearney, Emma King and our large existing Tassie girl fleet, including recent Glenorchy AFLW draftee Perri King. Hopefully this will continue to show the depth of talent in Tassie footy not only in our junior devils but also in our overage players and will become an annual event opening up opportunities for existing and new players to show their ability amongst some of the AFLW best.
Player to watch this week: 👀
Hayley James 🌟
Hayley is a junior with great credentials who has now transitioned into senior football and is really making her mark. A pacey left footer with super clean hands off the ground and a ferocious tackling ability. Hayley is quiet by nature off the field but a real fireball when the ball is up for grabs. We’re so excited to see Hayley continue to not only play great footy for our team but to carve out her own pathway to elite level. 🖤🤍
What a great training run tonight when the underages and seniors came together for a combined session. So great to see so much talent coming through the club and the seniors so keen to embrace them. Well done to all the girls and their coaches.
We managed to get 6 footys buzzing around in the one handball drill, not sure if it’s a world record but it sure was a great effort.
Our senior girls take on arch rivals Clarence Roos for the decider of the Smith/Corrie Cup this Friday night 7:00pm at KGV. Sure to be an absolute ripper contest with both sides playing great footy.
Get along and support our girls🖤🤍🖤🤍💙💛❤️
Player to watch: 👀
Lola Johnson 🌟
Lola is another product of the Dodges program but also plays with Lauderdale under 17s and our womens senior team. Lola is a great athlete and whilst a little shy at the start of the year has really found her confidence and is matching it with the best in the competition through the midfield. Lola’s strength in the contest has improved so much along with her skills both hand and foot and is now starting to pull down some good marks as well. We can’t wait to watch Lola continue on her impressive development and it won’t be long before she is tearing games apart.
Get along to see Lola and the rest of the girls 🖤🤍❤️💛💙
KGV is the place to be this weekend with a day full of great football action. The girls take on South East Suns 3:30 after the mens senior tradition game against Clarence.
We have some more exciting news as we welcome ex AFLW star Maddie Boyd, into our team. Maddie is a key forward, ruck and back player who brings strong insight and a wealth of knowledge into our game. Maddie joins us from Geelong where she kicked the first ever goal for Geelong in the AFLW!
Maddie is a genuine, passionate footy person and all-round fantastic person. She is a qualified in Sports Science and has a general love for body and well-being. Her knowledge and expertise provides our club more education around strength and conditioning of all of our playing group. Welcome to Maddie, we are very excited to have you in our club.

Player to watch this week: 👀
Keep your eyes peeled to Georgia Clark! She’s back to dominate the competition whether that be delivering silver service to her midfielders or clunking marks left right and centre down forward. Georgia is deadly in front of goals being a great finisher of her hard work. Georgia has one of the best work rates going around. Her hard running destroys many an opponent as they just can’t keep up with the young gun. If there’s an award to be won, you can guarantee it has Georgia Clarks name written all over it.
Get along to watch the young star tear it up along with the rest of the Glenorchy girls

WELCOME TO ASH GUEST 🖤🤍
GDFC is excited and pleased to announce that former GWS, Melbourne and Western Bulldogs star, Ash Guest, has signed on with the Magpies 🏉
Ash played 40 games across 5 seasons and 3 Clubs of AFLW Football, playing with the Western Bulldogs last season before announcing her retirement from AFLW at the end of the Season.
Ash will bring real life experience of what it takes to play AFLW to our playing group, our coaches and importantly our junior girls coming through.
Ash now brings another exciting element into our program, but also the competition as it seeks to gain credibility from recruiters and having a marquee player like Ash in the competition, will only heighten their interest.
Ash “Sees this as a great opportunity and will love to be involved”.
With a few night games still to go, however, Ash did have a question “Just to confirm, night football in Tassie comes with a heated ground right? Hahaha, as I haven’t played footy in winter for 7 years”.
No need to worry about that, the warm welcome our Club gives players will certainly remove any winter chills. Ash “Can’t wait to meet the coaches and all the girls”
With the AFLW Draft taking place tonight, GDFC wish all our Tassie Girls who have nominated and are eligible, the very best of luck for the Draft. We know the talent and passion our Tassie Girls have across the State and this is what makes them valuable and exciting footballers that any club would do well to draft, good luck Girls.
Here at Glenorchy we are always looking to develop opportunities and growth within our Women’s Program and a shining example of this has been our partnership with the Dodges Ferry Sharks female players. This partnership has exceeded all expectations to date with players from both clubs not only embracing the experience but flourishing and playing great footy.
A huge welcome to the nest Ash. We can’t wait to see you out there with our girls lighting it up 💪

So exciting to see one of the competitions premier players back out there, we’re sure whilst it might take a few more weeks to get back up to full pace her footy smarts and skills will undoubtedly get her through and make a great impact for our side. Mackie Sutcliffe!!! If you don’t already know the name, get to know it because this girl has talent like no other. Mackie is no doubt one of the premier players of the SFLW and has a very impressive football record. She has recently added to that by being nominated Vice Captain of the pies. Mackie is known for her versatility, booming kick and pace through the contests. Any position Mackie is put in she makes it hers and works her magic which can be single handedly turning a game on its head leaving the opposition with no where to go. She is a play maker and uses her smarts to provide her team mates with the best opportunities. Everyone wants a Mackie on their team. ⚫️⚪️⚫️⚪️
Recap on what our Glenorchy girls have been up to in the last 2 weeks starting with a huge Congratulations to all of our girls that represented our club in the All Star series. You all did amazing and showed your grit, heart and determination to be the best players you can be. Well done to all! 🤩
We also organised an inter club match to keep our touch up and what a great day it was! The girls continue to show improvement and do all the little things right! We had prizes on the day that got rewarded to Brit Meers snatching up mark of the day, Lola Johnson snagged goal of the day, coaches award went to the one and only Narelle Green from the green team known as ‘Loz’s Legends’ who dominated off half back showing her fierce competitiveness and looking the part! Second coaches award went to Emily Newman from the white team ‘Peps Predators’ for her bravery and desire for the footy. Player of the day went to Liv Harris.
‘Peps Predators’ just got over the line on the day but we can already feel a rematch on our next bye. 💪🏼
This week the girls take on Claremont at Abbotsfield park 7:00 on Friday night. Make sure you get along for a clash between the two magpies. The game will be live streamed on Duff Tv if you can’t make it, link will be posted prior to the game.

Player to watch 👀
After coming back from injury last year she has found her feet stepping up into fine form this year. Bree Laidler has found her position in the forward line snagging us a few goals. Bree is another prodigy from Dodges and has slotted in nicely to div 1 football. Bree is a very knowledgeable and skilful player in our team and always looks to intercept mark or set up other team mates. Get along to watch Bree and the rest of the girls for a big day of footy at the nest. 💪🏼⚫️⚪️🟡🔵🔴
