💚💗 HIDDEN DISABILITIES WEEK | NOT ALL DISABILITIES ARE VISIBLE 💗💚

Bazza and the Moreton Bay Bugs are celebrating Hidden Disabilities Week, and we've brought a few extra friends along to help spread an important message!

🦊🐢🦉🐶🐱🐙

Different animals. Different journeys. The same team.

Just because you can't see someone's disability doesn't mean it isn't there.

Some disabilities are visible. Others are hidden. Some people live with chronic pain, neurological conditions, sensory differences, mental health conditions or other challenges that aren't immediately obvious.

And here's the thing...

💚 You don't need to see someone's disability to believe them.

💗 You don't need to understand every challenge to show kindness.

💚 You don't need to know someone's story to make them feel welcome.

At Moreton Bay Bugs Boccia Club, we believe inclusion isn't about what someone can or can't do. It's about creating a space where everyone feels safe, respected, valued and part of the team.

Our little Bugs family is proof that we don't all have to be the same to belong.

This Hidden Disabilities Week, we encourage everyone to look beyond what you can see, listen without judgement and lead with kindness.

Because sometimes the biggest barriers aren't the disabilities themselves, but the assumptions people make.

🩷⚫ MEET THE BOARD ⚫🩷

Meet Lynette Ann Richardson, Treasurer of Moreton Bay Bugs! 🐞

Lynette brings bookkeeping experience, a background with sporting clubs, and plenty of community spirit to the Bugs board.

Her Boccia journey began through her friendship with fellow board member Alison Wolski, whom she met while working at Cerebral Palsy League. Alison invited Lynette along to Boccia, and thankfully for us, she liked what she saw! 🩷

One of Lynette’s favourite Boccia moments has been watching Alison improve her throwing during a match. It’s those moments of seeing someone grow in confidence and skill that make our sport so special.

Sport isn’t new territory for Lynette either. She previously coached “Have a Go” cricket and holds a Level 1 cricket coaching qualification. 🏏

This year, Lynette is looking forward to becoming even more involved with the Bugs and helping our little club continue to grow.

We’re very lucky to have her keeping an eye on the numbers while also bringing plenty of laughs and conversation along the way! 🩷🖤

🩷🖤 QUEENSLAND STATE TITLES: MEDALS, MEMORIES & A VERY SPECIAL LEGACY! 🏆

What a weekend for our Moreton Bay Bugs family at the Queensland Boccia State Titles!

A massive congratulations to our incredible athletes, Tony and Glenda, who did the Bugs proud! 🐞

🥉 Glenda brought home a BRONZE medal in the individual competition!

🥈 Tony and Glenda teamed up to bring home SILVER in the pairs!

We are so incredibly proud of you both. Your determination, teamwork and sportsmanship are what the Bugs are all about! 🩷

💚 And now, for a very special part of the weekend.
Well, Dad, you didn't get to compete this year, but your spirit was definitely there. 💚

This weekend, we had the incredible honour of celebrating your legacy with the presentation of the Ryan Finn Shield for Best and Fairest Individual Athlete of the Tournament.

A shield that represents everything you stood for: kindness, fairness, sportsmanship and making sure everyone felt like they belonged.

And what a special way to begin its legacy!

🏆 A MAJOR congratulations to Jamie, who took out the inaugural Ryan Finn Shield at her very FIRST competition! What an incredible achievement. Dad would have absolutely loved that. 💚

A huge shout-out to Joep Buijs Photography, who, as always, captured our amazing players, the special moments and now a lasting legacy for our family. Your photos mean more than you know. 📸

And to Lily, Queensland Pathways Coordinator, thank you for going above and beyond to work with our family during an incredibly difficult time. Your kindness, compassion and support helped us turn something heartbreaking into something that will continue to celebrate Dad and the sport he loved for years to come.

Dad, Boccia was our thing, and it always will be. We will keep showing up, keep welcoming people and keep building the legacy we started together.
You might not have been on the court this year, but you were certainly part of the tournament. 💚

🐞🔥 THE BUGS ARE ON A STREAK! 🔥🐞

Another fantastic clash between the Moreton Bay Bugs and No Boundaries Breakers today, with plenty of great Boccia, friendly rivalry and some seriously impressive shots!

The Bugs are keeping their streak alive 💪🐞 but the biggest question of the day might be…

🎯 WHO HAD THE SHOT OF THE DAY?!

Was it Glenda, pulling out an absolute cracker when it counted? 👏
Or was it Zac, with a shot that had everyone watching? 👀🔥

We honestly can’t decide!

These clashes are becoming one of our favourite parts of the month. Competition on court, laughs off court, and two clubs coming together to give our athletes more opportunities to play the sport we love. ❤️

A huge thank you to everyone from No Boundaries for another brilliant day.

📣 BUGS MEMBERS – YOUR VOICE MATTERS! 🩷🖤

The Australian Government is currently asking for feedback on a proposed $200 million Inclusive Communities Fund, which aims to help community organisations become more accessible and inclusive for people with disability.

People with Disability Australia (PWDA) is preparing a submission, and they want to hear directly from people with disability about their own experiences.

I’d really encourage our Bugs members with disability to complete the survey and have your say. 🗣️

As a club, we know that community participation is about so much more than simply being able to enter a building or attend an activity. Boccia gives our members opportunities for sport, friendship, connection, independence, confidence and belonging. But we also know there can be significant barriers to participating, including cost, accessibility, transport, suitable programs, support and simply having somewhere you genuinely feel included.

This is an opportunity to tell the Government:

- What activities and community participation mean to you
- What makes it harder for you to participate
- What support helps you participate
- What organisations could do better
- What you believe funding should actually support
- Why people with disability need to be involved in making these decisions

💡 You don't need to know anything about the Inclusive Communities Fund beforehand. Everything you need is explained in the survey.

⏱️ It only takes around 5–10 minutes.

Most importantly, please answer from your own experience and in your own voice. There are no right or wrong answers. Your lived experience matters.

If we want future funding to reflect what people with disability actually need to participate in community life, then people with disability need to be part of the conversation. 🩷
