Victorian members have secured a major win as part of the It’s a Bloody Mess campaign, with Abloy keys now made available to third-party contractors to access bathrooms across the Metro network.

Access to a bathroom should be a basic requirement of any workplace. Yet a recent decision by Metro meant many contractors working on Metro sites were denied access to toilet facilities during their shifts. Only a small number of keys were issued, and workers were banned from sharing them, leaving many without access when they needed it most.

After sustained pressure, that ends here.

This win comes alongside hundreds of reports from women members exposing the unacceptable state of toilet and sanitary facilities across the transport sector.

Every transport worker deserves access to clean and safe facilities. We’ll keep fighting until that’s the standard everywhere.
