AN IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT FROM BOAT A HOME
After almost 20 years of building boats, creating memories and meeting some incredible people along the way, it’s with a heavy heart that we officially announce the closure of Boat A Home, effective immediately.
This certainly isn’t an announcement we ever imagined having to make, and it’s taken a lot to get to this point.
Some of you may already be aware of our situation, as we’ve recently been in contact with our existing Boat A Home owners, suppliers and those closer to the business. However, we wanted to take the opportunity to share this news with our wider community, who have followed and supported us for so many years.
The reality is that 2026 has been an incredibly challenging year for our business. Like many Australian manufacturers, we’ve been facing increasing pressures, from slowing sales and rising material costs to the growing challenges of manufacturing here in Australia.
We’ve worked hard to adapt, diversify and find ways to keep moving forward. Despite the difficult conditions, we remained optimistic about the future and had been discussing several new boat builds for next year.
As many of you know, alongside building Boat A Homes, we’ve also been heavily involved in manufacturing for the caravan industry, particularly with Australian Off Road (AOR).
Unfortunately, the recent collapse of AOR has had a devastating financial impact on our business, leaving us owed a substantial amount of money that we’re unlikely to recover.
While we’d been doing everything we could to navigate an already difficult year, this unexpected loss was ultimately something we simply couldn’t absorb.
We’ve looked at every possible avenue to keep Boat A Home operating, but after weighing everything up, we’ve reached the difficult conclusion that continuing is no longer financially viable.
One thing we want to make very clear is that Boat A Home has not gone into administration or liquidation.
We’ve made the difficult decision to close our doors ourselves, and we’re committed to winding down the business responsibly and with integrity.
All customer boat builds have been completed, and all our employees have received their final wages and outstanding leave entitlements in full. We are now working through our remaining financial obligations and finalising the closure of the business.
From the moment we made this decision, our goal has been to finish this chapter with our heads held high, honouring our commitments and doing everything we can to ensure that no customers, suppliers or other small businesses are left out of pocket as a result of our closure.
We know firsthand how devastating the financial impact of another business closing can be, and we’re determined to do everything within our power to avoid putting others in that same position.
Our workshop has now been closed and packed down, our staff have moved on, and we’re in the process of selling the last of our equipment.
To our incredible team, past and present, thank you.
In particular, our staff over these past few months have been nothing short of incredible. They’ve shown tremendous understanding, loyalty and support through what has been an extremely difficult time.
Having to say goodbye to our team has undoubtedly been one of the hardest parts of this entire process. We couldn’t have achieved what we have without the hard work, dedication and craftsmanship of the people who helped build these boats over the years.
To our customers, followers and supporters, where do we even begin?
For almost two decades, we’ve had the privilege of developing, building and continually improving a product that we’re genuinely proud of.
What started as an idea grew into something far bigger than we ever imagined.
We’ve watched our boats travel all over Australia, seen the incredible adventures people have had in them and met so many wonderful people along the way.
To everyone who purchased a Boat A Home, shared our posts, followed our journey, visited us at a boat show, recommended us to a friend or simply stopped to have a chat — thank you.
Your support has meant more than you probably realise.
While our manufacturing operations have now ceased, we still believe in the Boat A Home product and everything the brand represents.
We retain the Boat A Home moulds, brand and the knowledge developed over nearly 20 years of building these boats. Perhaps there’s an opportunity for someone with the right vision and resources to take what we’ve created and give Boat A Home a new chapter. We’re certainly open to having that conversation.
And who knows what the future holds for us personally? Once we’ve had some time to recover from what has been an incredibly challenging period, perhaps we’ll find the energy to pursue again.
Right now, though, our focus is simply on finishing this chapter properly and taking some time to reassess.
The past few months have been some of the toughest we’ve experienced in business. Closing down a workshop, saying goodbye to staff and walking away from something you’ve poured so much of your life into is certainly not easy.
But we’re doing our best to deal with the circumstances we’ve been handed and move forward with our heads held high.
We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve built, the people we’ve worked alongside and the community that has grown around Boat A Home.
To everyone who has supported us throughout this journey, and particularly those who have reached out with kind words and encouragement over recent weeks, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
