It was a week of highs, lows and plenty of fight from Team Barbados in Costa Rica.
After a challenging start that saw us suffer a couple of narrow defeats, the team showed tremendous character to bounce back with consecutive victories and keep our hopes alive heading into the final day.
Ultimately, we came up short against a strong Puerto Rican side in our last tie, bringing our campaign to a close.
While promotion proved just out of reach this time around, Barbados has retained its place in Americas Group III.
There is still hope on the horizon. We now await confirmation of whether our Davis Cup Nations Ranking will be sufficient to earn one of the available spots in the 2027 World Group II Play-offs next February.
A special congratulations to Darian King, who was presented with the prestigious ITF Davis Cup Commitment Award in recognition of his outstanding service to Barbados. Darian has represented our nation on 31 occasions, recording 44 singles victories and more than 70 overall Davis Cup wins during his remarkable career. π§π§π
Thank you to our players, support staff and everyone back home who followed and supported the team throughout the week.
Our journey continues.

The Barbados Tennis Association would like to extend our deepest condolences on the passing of John Goede.
Johnβs work as the ITFβs Development Officer played an integral role in the growth and development of tennis in Barbados. His visits to Barbados were always insightful and helped to refocus our objectives as an association as we planned our way forward.
Over the years, John became much more than an ITF Development Officer, he was a true friend who could always be counted on to provide sound advice, guidance, and direction.
His impact on tennis in Barbados and throughout the region was immense, and his presence will surely be missed.
Again, we extend our deepest condolences to Johnβs children, Yannick and Carentxa, as well as to all his family and friends. May God provide you with comfort, strength, and healing during this very difficult time. May his memory live on forever in the hearts of all who knew him.
Rest in peace John.

The Caribbean tennis community has lost a true servant of the game. π€ ποΈ
John Goede, former ITF Development Officer for the Caribbean, dedicated countless years to the growth and development of tennis across the region. Through his many official visits to Barbados, he built strong and meaningful relationships not only with the Barbados Tennis Association, but also with the National Sports Council and the Barbados Olympic Association.
Always professional, measured and deeply committed to the sport, John played an important role in helping to strengthen tennis throughout the Caribbean. His calm approach, knowledge and passion for development earned the respect of many players, coaches and administrators.
He will be greatly missed by the regional tennis family.
Our thoughts and condolences are with his family, friends and the Suriname tennis community during this difficult time. ππΎ
