🇧🇩⚽ FIRST BANGLADESHI FOOTBALLER TO PLAY FOR AN ENGLISH CLUB 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Jamalur Rahman was born in Bangladesh on 1 October 1973 🇧🇩. He moved to the UK 🇬🇧 with his family in the 1980s and later settled in Banstead, on the outskirts of London.

In the summer of 1990, Jamalur joined Burnley FC on a Youth Training Scheme (YTS) 🟣⚽. His signing attracted significant media attention, and he featured in the BBC Two documentary “On the Line” in 1991 📺.

⭐ He became the first Asian player to be signed as an apprentice by a professional football club in England.

Standing at 5ft 4in, Jamalur was a versatile midfielder who mainly played on the left side. Known for his quick feet and pace, he became a lively presence across Burnley’s youth and reserve teams .

During his time at Turf Moor 🏟️, he featured in the Pontins League, Lancashire League and FA Youth Cup. He also scored a winning goal against Bolton Wanderers after coming on as a substitute for Burnley’s reserve team ⚽🏆.

He signed professional terms with Burnley at the beginning of the 1992/93 season ✍️, before being released in the summer of 1993. He subsequently joined local non-league club Accrington Stanley and later continued playing amateur football in the London region.
