বুন্দেসলিগায় উইর্টজ খেলত একজন ফ্রি নাম্বার ১০ হিসেবে, যেখানে আক্রমণের পুরো নিয়ন্ত্রণ ছিল ওর হাতে। স্পেস পেত, টেম্পো ঠিক করত আর ক্রিয়েটিভিটিতে ম্যাচ ঘুরিয়ে দিত। পুরো সিস্টেমটাই ছিল উইর্টজ সেন্ট্রিক।
