World Football Day is officially celebrated annually on May 25, having been formally recognized by the United Nations to highlight the sport's massive cultural, diplomatic, and social impact.

History & Significance:
The May 25 date was chosen to honor the 1924 Olympic Games tournament in Paris, which was the first international football tournament to bring together teams from all continents. This historic milestone laid the groundwork for the creation of the FIFA World Cup a few years later. Recognizing the game as a universal language that transcends political, cultural, and socioeconomic boundaries, the UN General Assembly formally adopted a resolution establishing the day to promote global unity, peace, and healthy lifestyles.

Celebrations & Events:
FIFA expands the occasion into an annual World Football Week, which runs from May 21 to May 25. This week-long observance includes grassroots activations, youth empowerment camps, and special United Nations events that champion physical activity and community-building.

7-a-side school competition that drew a crowd of over 20,000 people!

A full house for school kids — just imagine that atmosphere! The energy, the cheers, the passion — unreal for a youth-level match. What’s even more amazing is — this entire hype didn’t come from money or marketing spend. It came from the story, the spirit, and the emotion behind the team. That’s what pulled the nation together to watch.

It all started from the picture you see is of Monthongwitaya School Football Team — a small school from Chachoengsao, Thailand, that first hit the national spotlight after defeating Assumption School — a powerhouse with everything: fancy buses, top facilities, and every comfort imaginable.

And guess what? These Monthongwitaya heroes travel to matches in an old pickup truck, driven by their coach himself — a man they respect like their own father, almost like a God figure to them.

What they lack in luxury, they make up for in passion, heart, respect, and commitment. The school believes in “learning from cradle to grave” — built on values like Modesty, Patience, Integrity, and Honesty. That philosophy shaped them into warriors — disciplined, humble, and unstoppable.

In sports, in football, in any art form — it’s not money that defines greatness, it’s heart, determination, and willpower. These are the invisible forces that can humble wealth and silence arrogance. And these boys — riding their “Dream Truck” — made it all the way to the final of the national competition!

It is also a big reminder for all of us — when you get the communication and purpose right, you don’t need unnecessary budgets. You build excitement from the roots, not from the ads.

This is how real football development starts — from the heart of the youth, powered by community and belief!

𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐨𝐲𝐚𝐥 𝐦𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐑𝐨𝐲𝐚𝐥! 👑⚽

On November 30th, 2024, the field at AIUB became the stage for a special international futsal match between 𝐑𝐨𝐲𝐚𝐥 𝐎𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐣𝐞 𝐅𝐂 and the 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐨𝐲𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐦𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐚𝐮𝐝𝐢 𝐀𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐚, 𝐃𝐡𝐚𝐤𝐚. 🌍✨

While the scoreboard may not have mattered, what shone brightly was the bond of friendship and brotherhood between Bangladesh and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. 🇧🇩🤝🇸🇦

It was an honor for us to host this friendly game, promoting our association with key community stakeholders through the beautiful game of football. Huge thanks to our partners and supporters for making this event possible! 🧡💚

🏆 Over the past month, Bangladesh’s football teams have been on a remarkable winning streak in international competitions, making us all proud. Our Women’s National Team claimed their second consecutive SAFF Championship title in Nepal, our U-23 Men’s Team clinched the SAFF Championship in their age category, and our U-17 Men’s Team defeated the Philippines in the AFC U-17 qualifiers. Meanwhile, on the very same day that our Women’s National Team celebrated their SAFF victory, our cricket team faced a disappointing moment, getting all-out twice in a single day on home ground in a Test match.

Yet, despite football’s growing successes and global influence, sponsorship in Bangladesh remains disproportionately tilted toward cricket, which may no longer yield the meaningful returns once expected. Just two years ago, during the FIFA World Cup, Bangladesh's football passion caught the world's attention with our nation's unconditional love and support for Argentina. Football is, undeniably, the world’s most popular sport – a powerful marketing tool that brings people together like no other. Even in rural Bangladesh, a simple football match draws thousands of spectators to village fields, showcasing its reach and popularity.

Right now, our football community is facing a sponsorship drought, with several professional clubs struggling to find regular support. Football needs that boost more than ever to continue flourishing. It’s time for philanthropists, business leaders, and marketers to shift their focus. Let’s recognize the potential of Bangladeshi football as an arena for meaningful investment and give these champions the support they deserve.

This isn’t about diminishing cricket’s role; rather, it’s a call to give football the attention and resources it has truly earned through its recent achievements. Let's rally together and back the sport that unites us on every level – from village fields to international arenas. ⚽🇧🇩
