RAIN CAN'T STOP MERCANTILE BANK: HABIB RAHMAN'S CENTURY IGNITES 24-OVER RAIN RAMPAGE
Mercantile Bank PLC continued flawless run in Group A, delivering a batting masterclass to secure a dominant victory over IUT Alumni Cricket Club. The scheduled 40-over match was dramatically reduced to a 24-over sprint due to rain, yet Mercantile Bank’s batsmen showed no hesitation, posting a colossal total that proved insurmountable for IUT.
Despite the weather delay and the loss of 16 overs, Mercantile Bank’s innings was marked by an aggressive and calculated assault, reaching 220 runs for 4 wickets in their 24 overs.
The foundation was laid by a record-breaking partnership between Habib Rahman and NiLoy Ahsan (wk). Habib Rahman was simply unstoppable, smashing a magnificent 110 runs off just 75 balls before retiring hurt. His explosive innings featured eight boundaries and five towering sixes, maintaining a phenomenal strike rate of 146.67.
Providing vital support and crucial acceleration was NiLoy Ahsan, who scored a brutal 63 runs off a mere 27 balls, hitting seven boundaries and five sixes.
Faced with an overwhelming required run rate of over 9 per over, IUT Alumni Cricket Club struggled to find their footing. They were eventually bowled out for 119 runs in 20.2 overs. Only opener Saad (19 off 24) showed brief promise before the innings collapsed.
Mercantile Bank's bowlers were clinical in their defense. Habib Rahman, after his century heroics, remarkably returned to deliver a crucial spell, taking 3 wickets for 22 runs from his four overs. Ahammed Faisal also contributed with two wickets, ensuring IUT's chase never materialized into a threat.
Mercantile Bank PLC secured an emphatic victory by 101 runs, solidifying their dominance.
Habib Rahman is the undeniable Player of the Match. His century (110 off 75 balls) was the highest score of the shortened tournament thus far and provided the sheer momentum needed to post a target far beyond the reach of the IUT side in the limited overs.
This commanding performance extends Mercantile Bank PLC's perfect start to the season, making them the clear leader of Group A.

After a historic debut win, IUT Alumni Cricket Club returned to action for our second league match on 2nd October at Silicon Cricket Ground against Mercantile Bank PLC. It turned out to be a challenging day with rain interruptions breaking the rhythm of play 2-3 times and the match eventually being reduced to 24 overs per side.
Batting first, Mercantile Bank showed strong intent and made the most of their overs, posting a commanding total of 221 runs. Our bowlers worked hard against their batting lineup, with Majro picking up 2 wickets, while Mishel and Saad chipped in with 1 wicket each.
Chasing such a steep target under pressure, our batting order found it difficult to build momentum. Despite fighting spirit from the team, we were eventually bowled out for 119 runs, falling short by 101 runs. The highest scorer of the innings was Saad with 19 runs, showing some resistance in the middle.
Although the result didn’t go our way this time, it was another valuable experience for the newly formed IUT Alumni Cricket Club. The spirit remains high, lessons have been learned and we’ll look forward to bouncing back stronger in the next matches.

NAIL-BITING, LOW-SCORING ENCOUNTER, IUT ALUMNI CRICKET CLUB HELD THEIR NERVE TO DEFEAT ACC
In a nail-biting, low-scoring match, IUT Alumni Cricket Club held their nerve to defeat ACC by 5 wickets, successfully chasing down a challenging target in the League Match. The victory was secured by disciplined bowling followed by a gritty, determined batting display.
Batting first, ACC struggled to build momentum against a tight IUT bowling attack, eventually being bowled out for 131 runs in 33.3 overs. Tibro (22 off 40) and Barrister Rocky (20 off 53), whose slow but crucial innings helped push the total past triple digits.
The collapse was engineered by the relentless pressure from IUT's bowlers. Anik Emtiaz Asif was the star, delivering a sensational spell of 4 wickets for just 20 runs from 7.3 overs. He was ably supported by Monjurul Islam and Al Radowan Majro, who both picked up two wickets each.
Chasing 132, the IUT Alumni Cricket Club’s journey was anything but smooth. Despite losing two wickets quickly, the chase was stabilized by RK Nafiz, who struck a crucial 39 runs off 46 balls, and Anik Emtiaz Asif, who contributed a valuable 20 runs off 33 balls to back up his bowling efforts.
However, the team suffered a major blow when key batsman Rafsan Habib had to retire hurt on 12, adding considerable tension to the chase. In the end, it was a nervy finish, with the final wicket falling to the efforts of Md. Aktarul Islam (2 wickets for 14 runs) and Md. Belal Hossain (1 wicket for 22 runs). IUT scraped across the finish line with five wickets down in 34.2 overs, securing a hard-fought win.
Anik Emtiaz Asif is named the Player of the Match. His outstanding figures of 4/20 and Valuable 20 runs proved decisive, tearing through the ACC batting line-up and ensuring the chaseable target of 132. His economical and wicket-taking spell was the foundation of IUT's victory.
This gritty victory secures the IUT Alumni Cricket Club their first win and crucial points, shifting the landscape of Group A. IUT Alumni Cricket Club now has 2 points from their single match, boasting a Net Run Rate (NRR) of +0.570, placing them second only to the undefeated Mercantile Bank PLC.

Alhamdulillah, a historic day for IUT Alumni Cricket Club!
On 27th September (Saturday), we stepped onto BKSP Field 1, Savar for our very first 40-over Corporate Amateur Premier League match against Advocates’ Cricket Club (ACC) — and we couldn’t have asked for a better start, clinching victory by 5 wickets.
Our captain Rofy won the toss and decided to bowl first, and the decision paid off brilliantly. The opening spell from Majro and Monjurul set the tone with raw pace and accuracy, both striking twice and keeping things tight. The momentum carried through as the spinners took charge in the middle overs, with Saad and Timur each picking up a wicket, while Asif tore through the opposition batting line-up with a stunning 4-wicket haul, finishing with an economy of just 2.67. Supported by sharp fielding and excellent catching, the team bundled out ACC for just 131 runs in 33.3 overs.
Chasing the target, our batting got off to a shaky start with two early wickets, but Rafsan and Nafiz steadied the ship with a composed partnership. Nafiz led the innings with a top score of 39 runs, anchoring the chase. Asif and Sami provided solid contributions in the middle, before Nifty and Majro calmly finished the job, wrapping up the innings in the 34th over with 5 wickets still in hand.
It was a complete team performance — the bowlers striking early, the fielders backing them up with sharp catches, and the batters showing resilience under pressure. But the standout star of the day was undoubtedly Asif, whose all-round brilliance (4 wickets and crucial runs) earned him the Man of the Match award.
This victory marks a proud beginning for IUT Alumni Cricket Club in the Corporate Amateur Premier League. A day to remember, a team effort to cherish, and In Sha Allah the first of many more wins to come!💙💛❤️💚💜
