Zhuangzi, a Chinese philosopher who existed around the 4th century BCE, adhered to the teachings of Laozi (Lao Tze). He authored the book "Zhuangzi," which holds a significant place in Daoism as one of its foundational texts.

Within this text, Zhuangzi expressed the idea that "it is better to sit next to a quiet stream than to be emperor of the whole world". This statement serves as an embodiment of Daoist philosophy, which underscores the significance of aligning one's life with the rhythms of nature. It posits that genuine happiness and satisfaction derive from a simple and harmonious existence in tune with the natural world.

Zhuangzi implies that even though an emperor possesses immense power and wealth, their contentment falls short of someone who peacefully enjoys the serenity of a quiet stream. This suggests that authentic happiness and fulfillment arise from living harmoniously with nature, as opposed to amassing power and riches. Zhuangzi implies that true power comes from within, and that the power of the emperor is an illusion.
