Today marked the final day of the Botswana Foundation Umpiring Course for Indoor Hockey, and our trainees finished exactly the way they started with focus, intensity and pride. Led by FIH Educator & International Umpire Peter Caulder, the group completed full practical assessments, high-pressure decision-making scenarios and final technical evaluations.
From core rules on Day One, through applied game management on Day Two, to competent, confident umpiring on the final day, the growth has been clear and measurable.
Botswana now has a stronger foundation of indoor umpires ready to support the game at club, school and national pathway level.
This is how we professionalise the sport. This is how we protect the integrity of every match. This is how we grow.

The whistle just got louder in Gaborone.

Day One of the Botswana Foundation Umpiring Course for Indoor Hockey is officially in the books and our trainees didn’t just attend, they levelled up hard.

Delivered and led by FIH Educator & International Umpire Peter Caulder, the group went straight into high-level foundation training: mastering core terminology and pitch standards, locking down tactical positioning and spatial awareness, nailing defensive set-piece rules on the penalty corner, and then crushing the theoretical evaluation.

The Botswana Hockey Association, in partnership with Umpires Universe, is bringing a high-quality Foundation Umpiring Course for Indoor Hockey to Gaborone, Botswana and the man leading it is one of the best in the business.

Facilitator: Peter Caulder
FIH Educator. International umpire (outdoor & indoor). Peter has coached and developed umpires across the continent and brings real international standard knowledge straight to Botswana. This is not a basic talk-shop. This is proper, practical, high-level foundation training delivered by someone who has lived the game at the highest levels.
