Visit Mohembo 💦 partners with Mohembo West’s Brother of Peace Football Club.

Visit Mohembo is a registered entity that will have a Hambukushu online museum and a physical one.

At the museum, visitors will enjoy Hambukushu traditions, food, dance, man made artifacts, and culture.

The partnership brings together two key players the museum and the team to build meaningful relationships within the community, specifically to create jobs for Mohembo residents.

With the aim of registering for BFA affiliation, Visit Mohembo will help the club with consultation and registration to play in the Division 1 League, Shakawe Stream league.

Since 2022, I have observed the remarkable growth of the Shakawe Stream League teams.

Their style of play, marketing strategies, and overall demeanor demonstrate that they outgrew Division 1 long before it was officially introduced by the Botswana Football Association (BFA).

Okavango teams have indeed made Division 1 fashionable, underscoring the significance of football in the region.

This amount merely covers registration and preparation before kickoff only.

𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝗰𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗣𝟳,𝟱𝟬𝟬- This amount represents the purchase of three players at P2,500 each, accounting for 45% of the budget. Teams invest in talent due to the absence of academies.

𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: 𝗣𝟱,𝟴𝟬𝟬 -This reflects the “pay-to-play” model that teams must adhere to before the game begins.

𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁, 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗞𝗶𝘁 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴: 𝗣𝟯,𝟰𝟱𝟬-These are essential survival costs without food, football cannot thrive.

𝑨 𝑹𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝑪𝒉𝒆𝒄𝒌 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑭𝒂𝒏𝒔:

While P16,000 may seem trivial for BFA and Okavango Region Football Association (OKRFA).

For teams in Okavango without sponsors, this amount represents a significant financial burden borne by management from their own resources.

Furthermore, this figure pertains only to Day 1 expenses and does not include match fees, referee payments, medical expenses, or travel to Kasane and Ghanzi.

It is no surprise that many teams struggle and even collapse mid season.

If we aspire for Okavango and Stream teams to compete with those benefiting from structured support and dividends.

We must recognize that these teams often cannot afford even the basic necessity of scouting opponents.

After investing over P16,000, losing is simply not an option.

As the saying goes, “once beaten, twice shy,” Machiki.

Thus, I have this question to the OKRFA and BFA. Given this breakdown, is it still appropriate to label the requests from teams for structure and dividends as “begging,” or is it a matter of survival?

Okavango teams are not seeking handouts they are demanding a fair share of the dividends they help generate.

It is time to respect the game and recognize their contribution.

Shakawe KickOff writes as a PRO football fan. When I posted on Day 2 that the playoffs would start on Day 3, people didn’t understand why? So here is why:

As you know, those teams didn’t know each other well in terms of planning and play, and they weren’t given time to watch each team play.

That made it worse. So on Day 3, that was City Kings vs Red Stars brother region reps and homies. The game alone was a masterpiece. Matter of fact, it was art in motion.

In the background you could hear people saying "Team tse ne di ira Kabomo" there I knew Okavango flavour, cream de la crème, was taking place.

The moment that caught us was when the referee was so drawn into watching the game that he forgot he was supposed to be officiating it.

Despite the results brought in by both teams, that was a kasi football display for the books.

Mohembo United Queries Gate Taking Payout After Deciding Games in Shakawe

Mohembo United Football Club has written to the Okavango Regional Football Association asking for a review of gate taking funds paid after the region’s deciding games last month.

In a letter dated 03/06/2026 to the OKRFA Chairperson, Team President said Mohembo was given P1000 on 24 May 2026 “for transport and feeding”.

The club argues this is unfair given their contribution to ticket sales and overall gate takings during the deciding games held in Shakawe on 23rd-24th May 2026.

According to the letter, OKRFA failed to inform teams beforehand how gate money would be shared.

Mohembo says they were only given tickets to sell with an understanding that teams and the region would meet after the games to agree on a sharing formula.

“To our dismay we were given P1000 and to us we thought it’s not fair at all given the fact that we contributed a lot during these deciding games in terms of the gate takings,” The President wrote.

He urged OKRFA to “reconsider what you gave our team and give them what they deserve looking at the costs we incurred and the players welfare”.-Mohembo United President
