The Botswana Athletics Association has sent a delegation of four (two coaches and two athletes) to Nairobi, Kenya, to participate in the Youth Athletics Development Seminar taking place from 7–11 April 2026.

The selected youth athletes are 17-year-olds Ms. Game Onneile of Tati Athletics Club and Mr. Sarona Mokgwaosele of Jwaneng Athletics Club. Accompanying them are coaches Ms. Tshepiso Kashiwa of Werda Athletics Club and Mr. Keene Motukisi of The Isaac Makwala Athletics Academy

This initiative forms part of the Africa Youth Athlete Development Project, which aims to ensure that young athletes across the continent are adequately prepared for the 2026 IOC Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Dakar, Senegal.

The programme draws on World Athletics CECS coach education content, offering specialized guidance on coaching techniques tailored for youth athletes. It also incorporates comprehensive athlete education modules covering key areas such as safeguarding, anti-doping, nutrition, and personal brand development.

Through this holistic approach, both coaches and athletes will gain essential skills and knowledge needed to excel at the Youth Olympic Games and in their future sporting careers. Furthermore, the project seeks to broaden its impact by expanding access to training and educational opportunities for more young athletes preparing for their first international competition.
