The BIZ 2024 National Regatta was held this weekend in Placencia featuring Optimist and Laser competitions. On Saturday races were delayed to 3.00 pm until a light West Wind developed that permitted two races on the Eastern side of the peninsula. This was most rewarding for all after a day of waiting although the sailors had found many ways to occupy themselves. On Sunday a 5-knot wind built from the West and increased to 12 knots out of the Southwest, providing ideal conditions for three races to be carried out.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL !!!!!!!!!!
The results are as follows:
GREEN FLEET
Mitch Nagengast-1st
Linda Gutierrez-2nd
Danny Marin 3rd

WHITE FLEET
George Jackson -1st-Optimist National Champion
Jayden Westby-2nd - Most Improve-MVP
Andell Zelaya -3rd

Thank you to our sponsors NICH Belize, Bowen and Bowen for refreshments, The Moorings Belize, and Alfred Hamsh for providing Start and Finish boats, the host club Placencia Sailing Club for logistical support, Corozal Bay Sailing Club, Ladyville Sailing Club, Caye Caulker Community Sailing Club and everyone else who helped make our regatta a success.
And a special thanks to our young sailors, who shown patience and talent in these changing conditions.

Look out for a new date!

We are disappointed to announce the cancellation of our National Championship Regatta scheduled for this weekend, September 7-8 ,2024.
We have made this decision, after carefully reviewing the current weather, which calls for heavy rainfall and generally unstable conditions due to the approach of the tropical wave.
The safety and enjoyment of all for the event is of paramount importance to BzSA both at the venue and in some cases travelling the long distances to compete and support.
We apologise for any inconvenience and look forward to rescheduling the regatta when conditions are more favourable.

We all had a great time sailing at Corozal Bay this weekend. On Saturday, the wind was 12 knots coming from the East, and we completed four races. On Sunday, it appeared that we would not be able to sail due to the heavy rain and wind, but by 10 a.m. the rain cleared, and we succeeded in finishing two more races bringing the overall number of races to six as scheduled.
None of this would have been possible without the efforts of the host club, the Sailing Club of Corozal, the Placencia Sailing Club, and the Belize Sailing Association.
A huge thank you goes out to the sailors, parents, volunteers, and sponsors who made this a fantastic event.
We thank you for supporting us in every way.
Congratulations to all of our sailors. Placencia Sailing Club Corozal Bay Sailing Club Caye Caulker Community Sailing Club Ladyville Sailing Club
