Last night we held our year end banquet and was the final wrap to our 2025/2026 Durham Dragons Special Hockey season.
It was quite a successful season, with many highs and lows. We had some new players and families join our organization as well as a few new volunteers and coaches as well.
Unfortunately the season started off with the passing of longtime volunteer Nancy Phillips that was the backbone of the Dragon Organization....R.I.P. Nancy, we miss you greatly.
Once again we held our in house "Burnbrea Cup" competition that was plenty of fun as usual for the blended teams of Rage/Ryder's + Icefyre/Knights. We also competed and we're quite successful in the annual Kitchener Ice Pirate's Tournament, as well as the annual S.H.I. Tournament that was held in Toronto.
During the season we also introduced a new friendly annual....best of 3 games "Winter Classic Cup" competition between the Knights and the Ajax Oldtimers Hockey League....and we must say, it was quite a success with some great competition and lots of laughs!
A big thank you goes out to every single volunteer, coach, manager, the referees, and most of all the parents and caregivers and Dragon Superfans in the stands that made the season such a success.....without all of you, it just doesn't happen!
Have a great summer, stay healthy, keep the fire burning, and we will hopefully see everyone at the rink in September for the 26/27 Season!
Here's some pics from the banquet, and if anyone else has any more, please feel free to post!

Take a close look...the father of one of our Icefyre players has a bit part as a referee in this documentary.

Today we held the 3rd and deciding game, of what started out as one game, and became a "Best of Three" series between the Knights and the Ajax Oldtimers.
For those that haven't been following the games, the Knights won the first game thanks to a last minute goal, and then the second game was won by the Ajax Oldtimers tying the series at 1 game apiece.
Today's game as everyone agreed, was probably the most exciting of the series. The action was non-stop. Both goalies made some phenomenal saves, the skating and passing was fast and furious, and the goals were well earned.
Most of all, both teams played hard, and earned every goal. The fans in the stands were totally into the game, and both teams and coaches had great respect for each other.
After all that end to end action, the game ended in a 6-6 tie! So....in the end, everyone won.
Due to the success of this series, we will most definitely be playing once again for the....
Durham Dragons vs Ajax Oldtimers
Winter Classic Cup!

As some of you know I (Sean Pearce - Asst. Coach Ryders) set up a series of hockey games between the Ajax Oldtimers vs The Durham Dragons top level team (Knights).
It has been a great success in so many ways....the competitiveness between the two teams has been non-stop, the chirping (especially from the Dragons) has been hilarious, and the sportsmanship between the teams has been great.....also the support for the games from off the ice has been incredible!
The ultimate plan is to make this an annual series between the two teams!
What started out as a "1 off game" became a "Best 2 out of 3 series" between the two teams, with the final and deciding game being tomorrow.
So that being said, we now have a little hardware to top off the series for the winning team!
