Bradford Canal Loop

I was looking for a flat route for some time, when last week I rode through this place on my way from Vaughan to Orillia.

Today I decided to give it a try, and I have no regrets! The loop is completely flat and safe. The only thing is that it is in the middle of an open field, so, you should expect a windy ride.

Apart that, the experience was great, I recommend.

How is cycling in Toronto?

Sometimes people from outside of Toronto ask me that question, my answer is:

1. Flat
2. Busy
3. Shared
4. Slow
5. Beautiful

To prove that, today I took some pictures of an ordinary ride around here.

What do you think about cycling in Toronto?

115 km from Vaughan to Orillia!

This is a great ride if you have someone kind enough to pick you up there!

Instead of riding from home, I decided to get the TTC all the way to Vaughan, and start my ride from there.

About the experience. I love it! πŸ‘

Lots of great roads, particularly the segment from Barrie to Orillia, it feels like the roads are all yours,! 🚴

The only thing I would recommend is to avoid the Yonge St from Bradford to Barrie, it is too busy, and it does not have shoulders.

Back in 2001 I started my transition from Mountain Bike Down Hill to Triathlon, what I didn't know was that in one year I would be in the starting line of this thing called Ironman!

It was a fantastic experience, at that time, no carbon fiber bike or anything close to that, I had downtube shifters on a chromoly frame, mountain bike downhill shoes on a mountain bike clip pedals, and a beautiful aero helmet 😁! Don't let me start with the training, even with the support of an entire team of competent professionals, so much has changed in the last few years!

3 Ironmans, that was all! I was never a great runner, and never a long distance guy. However, I was able to have a sub-2-hours Olimpic Distance Triathlon, with my best 40km bike in 56min (42km/h), yes, that same bike in the pictures 😜

One day I will tell you my story about Mountain Bike Down Hill, which was my thing between 1995 to 2001.

This month is happening the Midweek Criterium Series, offered by the Midweek CyclingΒ Club (), a volunteer run, grassroots competitive cycling team based in Toronto & Mississauga supporting Youth, Women, Masters, and Elite racers.

This picture is from this summer, when I had the opportunity to ride with this strong and fun group !

I wish
success in their participation in the Midweek Criterium Series!

Looking forward to see the next sprint!! πŸ†πŸ†πŸ†

Back on the bike, even with limited time I decided that is better to go for a short ride than not going for a ride at all!

It's been a great summer for cycling, and I need to apologize for not organizing a single group ride this summer. My workload has increased and my free time was unpredictable, I guess that is how life works.

Keep motivated, I would love to see you all on the road!
