Had a blast building up a customer's roMax Steel 3.0 gravel bike last week! 🚴

The roMax starts with a Reynolds 725 Chromoly tubeset for a supple, lightweight ride, and comes stock with Brodie's own B-Team wheelset. Shifting is handled by a Shimano GRX 12-speed drivetrain, and it's all finished off with WTB Raddler 700 x 40c tires. There's room for fenders, plus accessory mounts that make the roMax ready for light bikepacking, commuting, or training.

Just thought we'd share this Marlin 6 in Gloss Lavender Haze. The paint is amazing! It brings back vibes of Marin, BRC, and Kona bikes from the late '80s to early '90s.

Of course, today's Marlin 6 has a RockShox Judy suspension fork, Shimano disc brakes, and a dropper seatpost, but the spirit of exploring nature on two wheels remains.

Once in a while, Ideal Bike gets a bike that falls into one (or a couple) of two categories: Orphans and Unicorns! We'll post them as we get a chance.

This week's Orphan: a 2025 Medium Trek Dual Sport 3 Gen 5.

In its final 2025 generation, the Dual Sport was essentially Trek's FX hybrid with one key difference: the FX rolls on 700c x 38c tires, while the Dual Sport uses 650b (27.5") x 50c tires and wheels. That makes it a little smoother on rough surfaces and trails. Think of it as a 90s-style commuter MTB with a more practical wheel size, hydraulic disc brakes, and a carbon fibre fork.

Frame: Alpha Gold Aluminum, internal cable routing, rack and fender mounts.
Fork: Lightweight carbon with internal brake routing.
Wheels: 650b (27.5") aluminum rims, tubeless ready.
