Try This Approach:

1️⃣ No worries at all. Could you share the quote they gave you, so I can get a clear picture?

People often stretch the truth for discounts, or they might have received a quote for a service that doesn’t fully meet their needs.

Next, ask...

2️⃣ If the price were the same, who would you pick?

This helps them shift from thinking about COST to considering VALUE. If your service stands out, they’ll lean towards you.

Follow up with...

3️⃣ Why would you choose the higher-value service?

This encourages them to see the importance of value over just the price.

Then say...

4️⃣ Exactly. It’s all about achieving the results you’re after. If price is the only concern, we might not be the best match. Our clients are ready to invest a bit more because they’re focused on getting the best results. So, is your priority on the price, or is it on solving the problem and achieving the best outcome?

But hold on...

They might say...

Client: We want great results, but we also need a better price.

You can respond with:

5️⃣ I get that. I can match that price, but I’d need to remove some features. So, is it riskier to save a bit and get less than ideal results, or is it worth spending a bit more to ensure you get the best outcome possible?

1. Pricing will mess with your head.
At the start, you’re guessing more than quoting.
“How long will this take?”
“What should I charge?”

I’Il admit, in the past l’ve sent photos to other contractors asking the same thing.

You’ll overprice some jobs → win big.
You’ll underprice others → learn fast.

That’s the game.
Experience sharpens the numbers.

2. If you don’t believe your worth... no one else will.
This industry gets undercut daily.
Weekend warriors.
“Cash jobs.”
B**r money crews.

Your job? Separate yourself.
Professional brand. Reliable service. First-class results.

But none of it matters if you don’t back yourself.
Confidence isn’t optional... it’s required.

3. What people see vs. reality are two different worlds.
They see the trucks.
The equipment.
The busy schedule.

They don’t see:
Payments. Repairs. Insurance. Fuel.
Weather delays. Cancellations. Payroll.

From the outside, it looks like you’re crushing it.

As we head into Thanksgiving weekend, I can’t think of a better way to start the day than opening my phone this morning and seeing a comment like this on a random post I made last week. 🙏🦃

When I started my landscaping business back in 1994, I was just a young man with a lawn mower helping people manage their growth…

Little did I know that helping people manage their growth would become my life’s purpose.

Back then, it was grass. Today, it’s people and businesses.

Funny how life works, isn’t it? 🌱

Over 32 years later and my greatest passion isn’t building the biggest landscaping company... It’s helping other business owners realize just how much they’re capable of.

Helping them find the confidence to take that next big step.
Helping them get comfortable being uncomfortable.
Helping them build businesses that don’t depend on them being involved in every little decision, so they can finally enjoy the freedom they started their businesses to achieve.

And sometimes, the most rewarding part of coaching isn’t watching someone’s revenue grow. It’s watching their confidence grow..

Seeing someone go from doubting themselves to believing in what they’re capable of is something I’ll never get tired of.
