• Continually identifying and assessing the needs of the sport community.

• Acting as a resource for the sport community and facility stakeholders.

• Increasing the profile of sport in Calgary.

• Encouraging development and enhancement of appropriate facilities and the efficient utilization of current facilities.

• Fostering collaboration within the sport community and coordination of resources amongst stakeholders to develop and enhance facilities.

• Facilitating education and training to athletes, coaches, officials, administrators and volunteers by providing information and/or available resources.

• Encouraging the hosting of sport events in Calgary.

Your kid wants to try volleyball. Where do you even start? 🏐

Start here. The Sport Calgary Amenity Map puts the city's clubs, facilities and places to play in one spot. Search a sport or your area, find a club, check accessibility info, and tap straight through to the details.

It's for every Calgarian. Want somewhere to play yourself? Same map. Run a club? Find a gym, field or rink and go straight to how to book it.

Because you can't play somewhere you can't find. And clubs can't run programs without space.

Is your kid's club on the map? Tag them below 👇

By 16, nearly 2/3 of girls have walked away from sport...

Most never come back.

According to Women in Sport that accounts for 1.3 million girls.

It's rarely one big moment. It's the registration fee that went up again. The practice that moved across the city. The team where she was the only girl. Peer pressure on how she looks or is perceived.

Cost. Access. Belonging. Those are the three barriers Sport Calgary works on every day, and for girls they stack up faster.

This month, during National Women's History Month, we're telling the other side of that stat: the girls and women who stayed.

A girl discovering sport finishing the sentence "When I play, I feel…"

A rower on the water at 6 a.m. because this is where they feel most alive.

University athletes on what they'd tell their 12-year-old selves.

We're calling it Still Playing.

If you run a club: what are you doing this winter to keep girls on your roster?

Tell us in the comments. We want to share what's working.

Follow along.

Kids in Marlborough got a surprise teammate yesterday.

Calgary Flames defenceman Zayne Parekh is Sport Calgary's newest ambassador. He spent his first afternoon on the job on the field at All Sport One Community, handing out soccer balls from the Calgary Flames Sports Bank. ⚽

The Sports Bank takes gear Calgary families pass on, cleans it up and gets it to the next kid. That's what Green Sports Day is about.

Got gear your kids have outgrown? Here's where it can go next:

Thank you to Umoja Community Mosaic, Calgary Public Library and the Flames Sports Bank for making it happen. 🙌

Today we wear orange for the children who never came home from residential schools, and for the Survivors and families who carry what happened.

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission issued 94 Calls to Action. Five of them, 87 to 91, are about sport. Call to Action 89 asks that the work of reducing barriers to sport include Indigenous peoples.

That's our work. We haven't finished it.

Today, we're listening. Read Calls to Action 87–91, and learn the story behind the orange shirt at orangeshirtday.org.

Sport Calgary works on the traditional territories of the peoples of Treaty 7: the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Piikani and Kainai), the Tsuut'ina First Nation and the Stoney Nakoda (Chiniki, Bearspaw and Goodstoney). Calgary is also home to the Otipemisiwak Métis Government, Nose Hill Métis District 5 and Elbow Métis District 6.

Need support today? The Indian Residential Schools Crisis Line is open 24/7: 1-866-925-4419.

One room. Every corner of Calgary sport. One reason we show up: every kid deserves a place to play and a place to belong.

Celebration of Sport 2026, presented by Volker Stevin brought club leaders, coaches, partners and champions together at Spruce Meadows to honour the people doing that work every single day.

Huge thanks to our host Jon Cornish and panellists Jay McNiel, Lara Murphy, Carlo Bruneau, Logan Ruzycki, Peter Judge, Mason Trafford, and moderator Rob Kerr.

And to our sponsors, volunteers and attendees: we couldn't have done this without you. ❤️

Cavalry FC, Spruce Meadows, Calgary Hotel Association, Tourism Calgary, Alberta Blue Cross, Group23 Sports Medicine and so many more!

It's official — Calgary is hosting the first X Games ever held in Canada.

February 19–21, 2027 at WinSport's Canada Olympic Park. The same hill that hosted the '88 Olympics is about to see Big Air, Knuckle Huck, Slopestyle and SuperPipe, with live music both nights.

The biggest winter sport event this city has hosted since 1988. And we're already thinking about the ripple — kids in that crowd deciding this is the winter they finally try skiing, snowboarding, or something they've never heard of.

We believe every kid deserves to find their sport. Because 350+ clubs and associations across Calgary are here to make that happen.

Tell us in the comments: which sport got you hooked as a kid? 👇
