Picked up the newest Zswing version of the DriveX 12 from our friends at Sunridge Badminton Centre and got it all strung up the same night with our standard setup (Aerobite @27/29lb)

Stringing
Fairly standard stringing experience; the single-pass grommets at the time are nicely staggered for easy stringing in those holes. Some grommets were not installed / pushed in all the way due to some grommet holes being tighter than others but that is a common issue with modern rackets

Grommets
Victor went with an all-white grommet setup this time. Since it share the same frame design as the standard DriveX 12, the thicker frame means they used longer grommets than usual. Generally not an issue as you can get white grommets in longer lengths as well. The main issue pops up when and if you have to replace the U-Shape grommets; these require u-shape grommets that are longer than standard ones. Will be contacting Victor to see if the longer grommets for the DriveX 12 are available.

Another minor observation is that top single pass grommets are shorter than the side ones. They are around 0.5mm too short. I suspect this is because Victor tends to use stock grommets sizes for their rackets and not custom lengths specific to each model like yonex does. It is a small details but it is worthwhile to mention as compared to something like the ArcSaber 11 Pro where all the grommets extend out around the same length all around the frame. Of course yonex does custom grommet sets for each and every model.

For whatever reason, Victor grommets seems to have a bad reputation along my clients; I get so many requests to swap out their grommets for another brand’s grommet on brand new rackets. For the record, I think they are fine and don’t recommend swapping out grommets on the DroveX 12 models until we can source out the longer u-shape grommets

The grommets on this racket were in pretty rough shape - pretty much all the grommets on middle on both the mains and crosses were broken or cracked. Ended up using several different lengths for the single-pass grommets (6.4, 6.8, 7.9, 9.0 & 12mm) as well as two different double grommets for the top (Redson 8.5 & 8.9); bottom double grommets were fine

Always satisfying to see a racket leave with a fresh set of grommets!

Badminton Grommet Maintenance 101

It is important to check your grommets regularly and replace any broken or cracked grommets. Broken grommets can lead to premature string breakage and in some cases, frame damage.

Not all grommets are made the same! On lower end rackets (generally those they come restrung) like the one above, the grommets are more brittle and generally too long, making them more prone to breakage and cracking. On this particular racket from one of our client, all the center grommets on the mains and crosses were broken.

Even with specialized tools, replacing grommets can be a tedious, time consuming process, especially if you take great care to use the right lengths and flare all the shared grommets. It can even take longer to change grommets than to string a racket! That said, it is importance to keep your grommets to good shape and we include basic grommet replacement (up to 6) as part of our standard stringing service and have very reasonable rate for anything more than that.

Due to popular demand, we now have BG80 Power available! BG80 Power is a great string for BG80 users who are looking for a slightly softer feel at the expense of a bit of power. However, durability is also improved over the standard BG80. Try them on your next string job!

NBG95 is an older string that was recent discontinued by Yonex so we decided to bring in a spool while they are still available. Why bring in a discontinued string? In our experience, NBG95 is one of the most durable string in yonex's line up while still offering great playability.

As for the Exbolt 65 Purple, we been getting many requests for BG65 in more colours; we will be stocking more colours for the Exbolt line in the coming months!

So stay tuned! We have a spool of BG80 Power on order as well!

We have been stringing badminton racquets for over 25 years and are constantly refining our technique and tools to ensure accurate tension, minimal tension loss, and resistance to breakage from mish*ts. We currently specialize in stringing racquets using the “Haribito” Pro 1-piece method but we are well versed in all the various stringing methods and patterns from all the major brands.

All racquets are strung using our Victor C-7032N Professional Electronic Constant Pull Machine with a 6-point mounting system using genuine strings and professional tools from Yonex, Victor, Gosen, Li-Ning, Kimony, and Parnell Knot.

We inspect all racquets and their grommets for damage and cracks prior to stringing and will replace up to 6 grommets as needed as part of our standard stringing service; a nominal fee may apply for ½ and full grommet replacements. We carry genuine Yonex grommets set for most high-end rackets from the last 20 years as well as special mods like their grommet strips and e-tune kits. We also have genuine grommets from Li-Ning as well as standard generic grommets.

Typical turnaround is 2-3 days, rush service is also available depending on our schedule and workload
