Why am I a movement coach? I am somebody who loves to move, feeling at home in my body and feeling competent in achieving the movements that I want. And I was able to do that fairly well for a number of years. I also have had my own challenges and injuries that prevented me from doing what I want, including ‘basic’ day-to-day activities. So I understand the frustration when you aren’t free to do what you want.
Part of my journey has been learning from many different sources. I have found that some of the most useful information came from unexpected places and that there is new information and new approaches available that may not be generally known. My goal is to use my unique combination of knowledge and experience to bring the right tools to help you find your freedom.
Besides, there is nothing quite like seeing the excitement when someone I’ve worked with realizes they’ve just done something they didn’t think was possible!

What an amazing and inspirational story! Movement goals don't have to involve competition but this is a great reminder that we all have the ability to make changes if we just start. In 35 years, you might be really glad that you did!

90-year-old Edmonton track star sets new Canadian records | Globalnews.ca Arnold Nett, who began training in track and field 35 years ago at the age of 55, has set a long list of records in the sport as a masters competitor.
Over the years of teaching ballet, yoga, and pole dance classes I have seen first-hand how unique we all are – this applies to specific movement types and sports as well as moving through daily life. An instruction or cue for one person doesn’t make the same impact in another. A stretch or strengthening exercise may be really important for one person but isn’t that important for another, even when they have similar goals. An isolated strengthening exercise may be great, but only if it can be integrated in the context of the final whole-body movement. Each person’s lifestyle, movement history, unique anatomy, and injury history all factor into that as well.
I look at where you are now and where you want to be to find out what exercises can best help bridge those gaps. This could include strengthening, flexibility, or even relaxation exercises and will be customized for all abilities. This is done in a one-on-one situation and can be in-person or online. I can either create a program that you can work at on your own or I can support you in your regular workouts to ensure you are making progress towards your goals.
Who am I? Here’s a little of my backstory:
I grew up dancing ballet, jazz, modern, tap, pretty much as much as I could. I took a few years off while I was working on a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology. I realized that I was really missing the dancing and was able to find some adult dance classes to help get me moving and happy again. One thing led to another, and I was offered the chance to teach a teen/adult beginner ballet class and absolutely loved the chance to share my love of dance.
I began to take teacher trainings and started learning about how to assess dancers to reduce any limitations that were holding them back as well as exercises to focus on to reduce the likelihood of injury. I had had some of my own challenges and this was new information that wasn’t available when I was younger; I was excited to bring this to my students! I also started my yoga teacher training which was about moving the body but made me much more aware of the interplay between the emotional, mental, and physical aspects of a person.
Since I was specifically interested in the ‘how-to’ of movement, I chose trainings that included anatomy, exercise science, and biomechanics. I began to see how resistance and strength training was often missing from the movement practices of those in the dance and yoga worlds but that there was gathering anecdotes and evidence that it would be of great benefit to balance out those movement practices. And so that brings us to today, where I am working on my diploma in personal training and learning about how to train to bring balance to the body for daily life as well as improve performance in other physical pursuits.
