Learn to Sail Day was a success!

We had 12 never-before sailors attend the event! 5 recreational sailors and 7 brothers/pledges from Sigma Chi.

Here's what the Sig boys had to say about their experience :)

Sigma Chi Gamma Rho brothers Wilcox, Gallant, Hawley and Lynk and three of our pledges took to the sea Friday afternoon to learn to sail. Braving the brisk and chilly Atlantic winds, our brothers and brothers-to-be had a blast navigating the waters to kick off the weekend.

So much fun had at Make Waves for the IWK this weekend! We had a team racing championship against Dalhousie Sailing Team in the name of a great cause!

Ian Dawson, the event organizer, was in a tragic accident two summers ago when a transport truck rear-ended his vehicle. He was driving his two children and a neighbour's child. Tragically, the neighbour's child succumbed to his injuries on his sixth birthday. This event is to recognize the incredible efforts and support put forth by experienced care teams at the IWK.

SMU Sailing is ecstatic to support such notable dedication! Thank you to Ian Dawson and all the volunteers at Make Waves that make this event possible! And Congratulations to Dal for the win! :)

Make Waves Make Waves for the IWK on September 26, '15. Community Day at Bedford's DeWolf Park with regattas in Bedford, Baddeck, Charlottetown and Pictou.

Sailing is the closest I can get to nature - it's adrenaline, fear, a constant challenge and learning experience, an adventure into the unknown. And of course there is nothing better than wearing the same T-shirt for days and not brushing my hair for weeks.
