AAU used to be about the best players competing against the best and earning real opportunities through performance. College coaches came to see who could actually play at the next level.

Now too often it’s turned into something different.

For many programs, it’s become a pay-to-participate system where families with money chase exposure, tournaments, and shoe circuit logos hoping it will create opportunities that haven’t been earned on the court.

Exposure was never supposed to replace development.
Money was never supposed to replace merit.

The truth still hasn’t changed:
Real opportunities come from real ability, real work, and real performance.

Most youth athletes are over-coached in games and under-coached in practice.
