Campbell Mountain: Perimeter Loop
Distance: 8.85 km (round-trip)
Elevation gain: 478 m
Expected time (solo): 2 hr 30 min
Difficulty: Average
Route type: Loop
Dogs: On-Leash
This trail network offers spectacular views of both Skaha and Okanagan Lakes while perched overlooking Penticton. This vast trail network is ideal for mountain bikers, but can be disorientating to follow without a GPS log. This particular route is the best way to enjoy all of the highlights the trail has to offer. Starting off as a more or less flat meander through arrow-leaf balsam root meadows, ascend the south side of the mountain pas the cell tower heading north back to the parking lot.

Carrot Mountain: Exterior Loopx
Distance: 4.34 km (round-trip)
Elevation gain: 618 m
Expected time (solo): 1 hr 40 min
Expected time (group): 3 hr
Difficulty: Difficult
Route type: Loop
Dogs: On-Leash
A difficult and at times strenuous hike, Carrot Mountain (or less commonly referred to as Davidson Creek) takes you on a steady, steep incline to a wide-angled view over West Kelowna, Shannon Lake and Okanagan Lake.
Slightly confusing, there are several trails on the mountain, the best option is to follow the well-used path along the gully to the top. The trail can be slippery at times and it is recommended to wear sturdy shoes, on the incline you may also need to use your hands, or poles if...

Blue Hawk Mine
Distance: 0.46 km (round-trip)
Elevation gain: 12 m
Expected time (solo): 5 min
Difficulty: Easy
A mere 20 minutes from the turn off from Westside Rd, this abandoned gold mine is a hidden gem on Blue Grouse Mountain. While the entire adventure is pretty short as the cave network only has two forks, expect hallway-style width and height corridors, and also 0.5ft-1ft deep water for the first 50 feet or so of the cave. Bring rainboots if you have them.
While technically it's possible to 4x4 right to the cave entrance, most cars (including a Subaru BRZ) can make it to the turn off where the...

Black Mountain
Distance: 15.2 km (round-trip)
Elevation gain: 720 m
Expected time (solo): 4 hr 20 min
Difficulty: Average
Dogs: On-Leash
Road access: Paved
This new route to the summit of Black (Knight) Mountain begins at the official trailhead on Swainson Rd. While only the lower part of the trail network is officially complete, it is likely this will be very close to the official route that will be in place when the park fully opens. It is unclear if this route crosses private property, as there are a couple signs mid-route, but word is that the RDCO purchased this land. Traverse at your own risk prior to the trail being officially opened.

Christie Falls
Distance: 2.2 km (round-trip)
Elevation gain: 212 m
Expected time (solo): 1 hr
Difficulty: Average
Dogs: Not Suggested
After driving past Bear Creek, the adventure to this trailhead takes you on dirt road for approximately half an hour. Most of the road is in relatively good shape except for the last 1 km or so. The hike is short, but the Christie Falls trail results in a beautiful waterfall, and a small cave to explore! The hike is a slightly difficult following a path through a forest that suffered during the 2009 Terrace Mountain fire. It is flagged for direction and also includes a steep decline. A cave is...

The Apex trail of Knox Mountain can be a test of strength and hiking ability as it leads you up steep sections to eventually reach the upper lookout. Once at the top, breathtaking views of Lake Okanagan, West Kelowna and downtown Kelowna await.
The Apex trail can be started from the bottom of Knox Mountain or you can drive up to the parking lot and take the path on the right just before Pauls Tomb (the trail should be signed). There are several forks in the path but they all eventually lead to...
