🏈 Week 9 at KMFL Winter Camp was a special one.
Our Wide Receiver group had the opportunity to learn from Ashton Miller-Melancon — one of the most decorated defensive backs in recent Queen’s Football history and a newly signed member of the Calgary Stampeders.
Ashton spent the evening working with our athletes on:
• Catching fundamentals
• Route break mechanics
• Release techniques at the line of scrimmage
• Defensive Back skills including footwork, hip movement, mirror drills, reaction work, and playing the ball through the hands
At KMFL, one of our key development philosophies is teaching athletes to understand both sides of the ball.
The best receivers don’t just run routes — they understand how defensive backs read them, close space, and attack the football.
Knowing your opponent makes you a better player.
🏈 Ashton’s football résumé:
• Former Queen’s University Defensive Back
• 4× OUA All-Star
• 1st Team U SPORTS All-Canadian
• Yates Cup Champion
• Recently signed with the Calgary Stampeders
Experiences like this also highlight the football pathway we are working to build here in Kingston — where young athletes can begin their journey in community programs like KMFL and continue developing through OSFL programs like the Kingston Grenadiers Football, or OWFL programs like Kingston Sharks , local high school, university, and even professional football.
Having athletes learn from players who have competed at that level helps them see what dedication, discipline, and love for the game can lead to.
On behalf of all of our coaches and athletes — thank you Ashton for giving your time and sharing your knowledge with our program.
👏 Our athletes won’t forget it.

🏈 Winter Camp Weeks 9 & 10 Recap – Finishing Strong 🏈
The final two weeks of KMFL Winter Camp were everything youth sport should be: competitive, developmental, and a lot of fun.
Week 9 focused on application and competition. Our athletes put their skills to the test across all positions — from Running Backs combining linebacker pursuit skills with ball carrying drills, to our Offensive and Defensive Linemen battling it out in live one-on-one reps. Quarterbacks continued developing decision-making and reading the field, while our Wide Receivers expanded their skill sets with release techniques and defensive back fundamentals.
In film, we worked on recognizing patterns and tendencies — helping athletes understand how anticipation can make the game slow down.
Week 10 brought our camp to a close with a celebration of everything our athletes accomplished over the past ten weeks. Position groups reviewed key fundamentals and competed in skill challenges before wrapping up the night with a fun conditioning session of Athletes vs. Athletes and Athletes vs. Coaches dodgeball.
It was the perfect way to finish the program — energy, laughter, and a lot of proud coaches.
Over the course of Winter Camp we watched our athletes grow in:
🏈 Confidence
🏈 Football IQ
🏈 Technique
🏈 Leadership
But most importantly, we saw a group of young athletes who genuinely love the game and support each other.
To all of our Winter Camp athletes and families — thank you for your commitment and support. We’re incredibly proud of this group and excited to see many of you again this fall.
📅 Fall registration opens May 1, stay tuned!

🏈 Winter Camp – Week 8 Recap 🏈
Week 8 was all about connection — connecting technique to understanding, skill to awareness, and effort to ex*****on.
Our athletes continued building strong fundamentals across every position:
⭐️ Running Backs sharpened pursuit angles, breakdown mechanics, and defensive reads to elevate their field vision.
⭐️OLine & DLine focused on stance, hand fighting, leverage, and live one-on-one reps — reinforcing the importance of controlling the line of scrimmage.
⭐️ Quarterbacks expanded their leadership role with huddle command, pocket management, and decision-making development.
⭐️ Wide Receivers reviewed break mechanics and began transitioning into defensive back concepts — becoming more complete football players.
💪 In Strength & Conditioning, we emphasized controlled power, stability under fatigue, and safe deceleration mechanics — building resilient athletes who can move explosively while protecting their bodies.
🧠 In Film, we focused on leverage and angles — teaching athletes that football is a game of space, positioning, and anticipation.
As we move into the final stretch of Winter Camp, we’re seeing confidence grow, football IQ increase, and leadership emerge.
Proud of this group. Proud of our coaches. Proud of the culture we’re building.

We’re proud to officially announce our partnership with the Kingston Sharks 🦈🏈
Kingston Minor Football League and the Kingston Sharks are working together to establish a meaningful, intentional tackle football pathway for girls in Kingston and the surrounding areas.
The Sharks are coming off an undefeated 2025 season and are the 2024 Tier Two Champions, competing as part of the Ontario Women’s Football League—a powerful example of what’s possible for young female athletes when opportunity and support align.
Together, our organizations are committed to providing girls the chance to participate in tackle football as early as 8 years old, in an environment that is inclusive, supportive, and safety-focused. Through mentorship and representation, young athletes will have “Big Sister Sharks” to look up to—leaders who show them that they absolutely have a seat at the table in tackle football.
We are proud to partner with the Sharks and are fully here for their continued growth and success as an organization. This is just the beginning.
💙🦈
