Second week in to the sugar season walking out of the pump house up my East mainline. Note the evergreens that grow between the maples tells you it’s a cold bush with stressed maples gives awesome syrup flavours.

It was a busy and special week preparing for maple syrup season at Wagner Maple Syrup Farm! In preparation for sap-running season, Natalie and Kailey were out in the bush tapping, while both of their father’s Jeff and Andy, respectively, were finishing renovations in the boiler room!
Natalie & Kailey walked the entire bush and tapped pretty much all of the 1,200 trees which all together is about 2,200 drilled holes and spiles tapped in! Our bush has swampy areas with both sugar maples and black maples. The maples share space with cedar, birch, beach, and hemlock trees and many more plants! Rocky fields surround most of the perimeter. The girls felt much gratitude to be working with the trees, mushrooms, and spirit of this special forest.
Jeff and Andy started and completed the important and difficult job of drywalling the entire boiler room! They had scaffolding set up reaching up to the 16-ft ceiling, worked in awkward corners and confined spaces around the boiler equipment.
Natalie and Jeff will be walking the bush this weekend to fix any leakages in the vacuum lines and to access the remaining mainline's damage from fallen trees from Dureco.
We are proud of everyone’s positive attitudes and recognize the importance of supporting each other in the more difficult moments of this work. Mostly, we are excited for the maple syrup boiling season to begin soon!

Bottling for the Thursday Lakefield and Saturday downtown farmers markets in the middle of renovating the bottling and packing barn. The pile of studs makes a good bottling table.
