Today I volunteered with the Western Physiotherapy aquatic therapy lab! It was my second year helping with this lab and itβs so fun to meet all the students and watch them learn techniques in the water. I loved hearing how many students said how relaxing it was to be the simulated patient in the holds and how good it felt on their bodies. It was also interesting to hear how many said how much harder it was than they expected! It can be tiring especially when the client likes to be on the move haha What a fun way to spend the morning! π
Happy Monday! π I wanted to show you one of the movements that we do as part of the functional movement screening (FMS) which is an excellent assessment tool that I offer as part of your initial appointment! I can modify the movements for kids but generally find kids enjoy the challenge. The FMS is a great functional assessment as it tests everyday movements in a straightforward way and provides a foundation for designing an exercise program. We often will re-test to see areas of improvement and areas to keep working on. Send me a message or email today if youβd like to learn more about the FMS! πͺπ»

And thatβs a wrap on an amazing term teaching! What you may not know about me is that I am also a lecturer in the school of Health Studies at Western! I teach a course on paediatric rehabilitation and it is always a highlight of my year. I am passionate about teaching future health professionals to think critically about current conceptualizations of rehabilitation and challenging our understanding of disability and health. We explore concepts surrounding what is normal, disability identity, holistic healthcare models, inclusion, exclusion and so much more! I am always so inspired by the bright minds of our undergraduate students, many who will go on to be our future healthcare professionals. The future looks is bright indeed!
