As someone who has come to love soca music organically, without any familial ties to the Caribbean, I try my best to be in a place of humble curiosity about the history and culture that supports the music I love.
In an effort to appreciate and not appropriate, I acknowledge my privilege in getting to be the face of Soka Movement and Pilates, sharing my personal love for soca music, and bringing together people here in , to learn, appreciate, and celebrate not only soca music, but Caribbean culture in general.
My sincerest gratitude goes to Troy for sharing some of the history about the origins of the Blue Devils and the difference between them and the Jab Molassie. is lucky to have such a passionate historian and educator on their team.
And I am so lucky to be here, sharing what I love (fitness & soca) in a way that fosters community and connection. Thank you London soca family for trusting me in this space 💕
And thank YOU for capturing this and putting this reel together 🙏🏽

✨Meet the instructor✨
Hi 👋🏽 I'm Kerry Ann, owner of RQR Mind & Movement Coaching, and instructor of Soka Movement & Pilates.
I started teaching cardio kickboxing in 2000 with my dad; at the time we were heavily involved in martial arts. I eventually branched out and started teaching at a local gym, teaching spin classes, bootcamps, cardiac rehab, and everything in between, while training for my black belt in taekwondo and completing my undergrad.
I got my kinesiology degree at Lakehead University, where I also got certified as a group fitness instructor through Can-Fit-Pro, and as a Certified Fitness Professional and personal trainer through Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology. I later worked as a private personal trainer and fitness instructor as I went through my master's degree in Occupational Therapy at University of Western Ontario.
After I started working as an OT, I gave up my fitness career for about a decade, even though I was heavily involved in my own physical fitness passions. I got my life coaching certification through the Centre for Applied Neuroscience as I was starting to feel weary of only working with folks who were already sick, and wanting to help working professionals improve their health and wellness before they had to come through the healthcare system.
Eventually I came back to fitness, launching Caribbean dance fitness classes here in London in 2019.
After having my first baby in 2021 (and yes, I taught through my entire pregnancy), I came to mat Pilates as a method of recovering from a c-section. I continued mat Pilates as a participant for another couple of years, through my second pregnancy (I also taught fitness through most of that pregnancy) and after a VBAC. It was during my second mat leave that I decided to get trained as a Pilates instructor, first through STOTT and then I got trained and certified through Neu Pilates, for mat and reformer.
I am a wife, mom, dog-mom, friend & ally. I teach fitness, run a coaching biz & work full time as an OT psychotherapist, with focus on return to work, stay at work, ergonomics, accommodations, and recovery from work-related PTSD.
And I really LOVE soca music 😘
