Girls hockey is growing in McBride!

Last spring, we had the opportunity to introduce girls hockey in McBride, and this group showed us just how much potential there is for female hockey in our valley.

With a new season just around the corner, we’re excited to see what comes next! We have girls ready to get back on the ice, dedicated coaches excited to grow the game, and we would love to welcome even more girls to join us.

It’s about more than hockey… it’s confidence, friendships, being part of a team and creating opportunities for our girls right here at home.

We are so excited to share that the McBride Wolverines have been accepted into WickFest in Calgary this upcoming season!

For our first season as a girls hockey program, this is such an incredible opportunity for our team to experience something bigger, connect with other female athletes, and be part of a tournament that celebrates girls in sport.

What started as an idea has already grown into something so special, and opportunities like this remind us why we are building this program.

Pioneer Days 2026

The McBride Wolverines hit Main Street for the first time.

For many people, it was their first glimpse of what we've been quietly building over the past few months. The girls proudly showed off their new Wolverines hoodies, represented our program, and introduced the community to something new.

The comments about the girls hockey team were pretty awesome to hear, but if we're being honest... the hoodies may have stolen the show. 😏💙

To top it all off, the girls brought home 1st Place in the Children's Category! 🏆

A special thank you to Yetter Construction for towing us down the street, but more importantly, for believing in this program from the very beginning. Behind the scenes, countless hours, resources, and support have gone into helping create opportunities for these girls. Programs like this don't happen without people willing to invest in a vision, and we're incredibly grateful.

Thank you to everyone who cheered us on along the parade route. We're excited for what's ahead as we continue building something special for girls hockey in the Robson Valley.

🏒 First Game. First Memories. 💙
Back in April, this group of girls took the ice against Valemount for their very first game.
There was no official team name. No jerseys. No logo.
But we knew this was the beginning of something special.
After two weeks of Learn to Play hockey, these girls chose to keep going. They committed to practices twice a week, worked hard to build their skills, and showed up ready for game day.
What they may not have realized at the time was that they weren't just playing their first game, they were helping build the foundation for what would become the McBride Wolverines.
Looking back, it's amazing to see how far they've already come.
Every team has a beginning. This was ours.

🏒INTRODUCING THE MCBRIDE WOLVERINES

What started as a simple two-week girls hockey introduction program over Spring Break has turned into something much bigger.

The goal was to create an opportunity for girls in the Robson Valley to try hockey in a welcoming, low-pressure environment. Equipment was provided. Ice time was provided. All they had to do was show up.

And they did.

The girls showed up ready to learn, eager to challenge themselves, and excited to be part of something new. Over those two weeks, confidence grew, skills developed, and a love for the game took hold.

As the program wrapped up, one thing became clear: two weeks wasn't enough.

With support from families, volunteers, community members, and most importantly the girls themselves, conversations quickly turned to what could come next.

Today, we're excited to introduce the McBride Wolverines.

The Wolverines are about more than hockey. We're creating opportunities for girls to build confidence, develop skills, make connections, and discover what they're capable of both on and off the ice.

This page will be where we share updates, opportunities, events, player highlights, and celebrate the incredible girls helping build something special right here in the Robson Valley.

This is only the beginning.
