Being in the fitness industry for more than 25 years, I've helped a LOT of clients. I've noticed a pattern among those who are considered 'aged'...
Many didn't start lifting weights until they met me...many were eating too little protein for their needs...and most developed a fear of pushing the body. It all amounted to one major thing...a lack of strength. I realized that aging alone doesn’t make you weak....something we've been told and most people believe.
What causes weakness with age is often:
Inactivity and muscle loss due to lack of resistance training and poor nutrition, especially low protein. In other words: it’s not the years but WHAT we stop doing in those years.
I've become much more in tune with what my body needs as I get older, and no amount of not being in the mood, or tiredness will get in the way of working on my strongest FUTURE self.
So let me say this again...strength isn’t lost with time. It’s lost with disuse. Get to lifting!

Remember those Costa Rica pics I posted back in January? Well… the retreat is officially happening — and if you were one of the women who said “keep me posted” — this is me doing just that.
We’re heading to Tamarindo, Costa Rica for a week of movement, adventure, reconnection, and reset. Daily workouts for all levels, light stretching, nature walks, group outings, great food (yes, breakfast and dinner’s included!), and time to just breathe and enjoy. You'll have plenty of 'me' time to explore Costa Rica your own way, on or off the boutique hotel property safely!

3 weeks ago, a newly referred client came to me with severe high blood pressure, desperate to turn things around, I did my usual 'dietary' check-in while she did a warm-up walk. Unlike most clients, except for loving her wine, she isn’t a sugar person, but loves SALT. Not to mention, she barely ate protein!
In the mornings, she'd have 2 coffees, a boxed cereal, and a piece of mango. For lunch, maybe a pasta salad with cheese, and for dinner, a palm-sized portion of chicken or fish with another starch. Let’s say that after overseeing client’s health for more than 20 years, I’ve gained a lot of confidence in my ability to improve a person’s health through lifestyle changes.
After only 2 weeks of following my nutrition and workout instructions, her doctor who has remote access to her stats calls on a SUNDAY and says "Whatever you are doing, keep it up!’. Her blood pressure has drastically improved and she was 7 lbs less on the scale.
When she gave me the good news, I wasn't surprised. Poor nutrition and stagnancy put her in a position of ill health. Wouldn’t it make sense that great nutrition and physical activity would do the opposite? Talk about empowerment; seizing control of your life and making choices that lead to profound change. Woot woot!
